Best Gadget Ever,
By Seriously, this little strainer is that good. No more pierced fingers from metal mesh strainers coming out of the edges. No more trying to scrape mashed goop out of those little fine-mesh holes. This strainer works great and looks great. When it's time to empty it, just walk it to the trash can and "pop" it inside out. Bingo! It's completely empty. A quick rinse and you're all set. You'll never again have to take a brush to a disgusting fine-mesh metal strainer.

Best strainer, fast,
By mike (ct usa) - See all my reviews I pick it up from the sink and turn it upside down over the garbage can to dump it and then flick the center of the bottom hard, inverting it and sending any sticky bits flying downward off the silicone into the trash, then I push it back down into the sink drain. Takes me way longer to say it than to do it lol.

Classy,

I like the fact that it is very decorative, and it is also easy to dispose trapped food particles away from the sink; however, it gets really slimy underneath the rim if you do not brush or clean it regularly. This is one disadvantage that I can think of.

An OK Gadget Until The Slimy Mold Takes Over,

This review is from: OXO Good Grips Silicone Sink Strainer (Kitchen)
A few of my family members recommended this strainer so I thought I'd try it out. Initially I loved it. Unfortunately a black slime/mold of some kind began growing underneath strainer and on the sink; anywhere the silicone touched the stainless steel. I tried scrubbing this thing and the sink everyday and if I missed a day the mold grew back with a vengeance.
What I found most frustrating was that food would stick to the silicone, so I wound up having to touch it and pick it out myself because it simply would not rinse out. The holes on this are much smaller so food gets clogged in them. Since then I've gone back to my old school, steel strainer that came with the sink. The holes are bigger so the food is less prone to stick and it rinses out much easier, and there isn't any slime! It's too bad because I have several OXO items that I love, this just isn't one of them.

Holes too big, debris pass through!,
By
This review is from: OXO Good Grips Silicone Sink Strainer (Kitchen)
Pros: Silicone underside creates good seal to force water go above instead of beneath strainer. Silicone pull/push makes cleaning easier. Unit well built & looks high-tech.
Cons: Holes way too big & let stuff pass through - defeating purpose of having a strainer! I use a cheapo Bed, Bath & Beyond $3 stainless mesh strainer underneath this. This $3 strainer is really small & sits way down in the drain, catching whatever the OXO one misses (which is a lot btw). The $3 strainer doesn't touch or interfere w/ the OXO function. But for us who use septic system, it's best to stop as much debris from getting into our drain as possible. For all fairness, if the holes on this OXO are any smaller, this thing will be blocked in a day or 2...

Works for Me,
This review is from: OXO Good Grips Silicone Sink Strainer (Kitchen)
I've had this sink strainer, which, for Amazon's benefit, is NOT the same thing as the OXO sink strainer with stopper, for about two years. I use it only in the rinse/drain side of my two-sided sink. For the other side, which includes a garbage disposal, I use a stopper only, coupled with a silicone 'silver saver' slotted mat, and I empty this strainer into the other sink just prior to letting the disposer do its work. As other reviewers have said, the holes in this strainer are large enough that some things, such as a grain of rice or a tomato seed, can get stuck in them and must be manually removed, and the silicone tends to develop a slimy coating if not maintained by rinsing, scrubbing, and the occasional cleaning by dishwasher. As I recall, these problems were attendant to all of the older basket-and-rubber-stopper strainers I had used, so this one is definitely better, given its flexibility, upscale appearance, and suitability to my particular kitchen routine.

Simple, functional and inexpensive -- a trifecta of perfection,
By Saiyan Vejita "Web Programmer" (New York, NY) - See all my reviews Enter the OXO Silicone Strainer. At approximately $7, it's about the same price as normal metal strainers. Using it is easy enough -- just make sure the strainer is center over your drain. Its top is thin enough that most debris will flow over the top of the strainer and into the silicone basket. And even when debris starts to accumulate in the silicon basket, water is still able to escape through it without any adjustment. All in all, a great product -- I couldn't be happier with this simple yet effective piece of technology.

changed my life!,
This review is from: OXO Good Grips Silicone Sink Strainer (Kitchen)
Okay- it didn't change my life in a big way, but it changed that small part of my life that happens when I catch things in the sink strainer. Now I just pop out the silicone into the trash and, voila, I'm done. I used to shake my old metal strainer (you know, the kind that usually comes with the sink) and knock it against the trashcan, and there would still be gunk in there. Now, when I clean my sink strainer, I have ease, happiness, peace, and nirvana. Can they invent something like this to work for the other parts of my life?

Perfectly Simple, Simply Perfect!,
This review is from: OXO Good Grips Silicone Sink Strainer (Kitchen)
I've owned this small piece of perfection for some time now and I couldn't be more pleased! It does what it's supposed to do and it looks good doing it.
-It fits the kitchen sink drain -It doesn't rock or move around -It strains and holds a fair amount of stuff while allowing water to easily pass through -It lifts up easily without tipping it's contents out -It inverts itself while in your garbage can, allowing easy emptying -It has a small handle to grab so that you don't get your fingers all messy -It doesn't rust -It is cool looking black silicone and stainless steel that looks great in a stainless steel sink. -It has a black silicone-lined bottom so it wont scratch or mar the sink surface -It is inexpensive! Oxo also makes a strainer with a stopper on the bottom. OXO Good Grips 1345100 Silicone Sink Strainer with Stopper which I also own. I prefer the reviewed model as I rarely need a stopper for the kitchen sink.

I Love It!,

Like one of the previous opinions, I can't believe I'm writing a review of a sink strainer. One of the "yuckies" in life is cleaning out the little bits of food etc that accumulate in the sink and this wonderful little gadget traps 'em all, does not impede the flow of water, and is wonderfully easy to just pop out over the trash. It is also then very easy to wash before returning to the drain. Life often is about the "little things", and this is one of them that makes me happy.
