4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting and educational book
I have been trying to learn more about Judaism, including Messianic Jews. My children receive books monthly from a Jewish society, so they have been introduced to traditional Judaism; this book really brings Messianic Jewish traditions to their view as well.

2.0 out of 5 stars a little disappointing
I bought this book for my grandaughter but was too disappointed to give it to her. The book is not very consistent with messianic thought. An example of this is the book refers to chnukah as a christmas substitute.

2.0 out of 5 stars not really Messianic, February 20, 2008
This review is from: It is Good!: Growing Up in a Messianic Jewish Family (Paperback)
I bought this book to give to my almost five year old daughter but will be "fixing" some of the info in it first. there are references to "resurrection day" and "Messiah's Birthday" being celebrated. as a Messianic I don't celebrate these are they are not Scriptural Feasts and are just replacements for the christian easter and christmas. it's a bit misleading to outsiders who would look at it and think that Messianics are not much different from christians, where in reality they are not similar at all.

to fix it I will be taping the pages together so my daughter won't see them. there is so little out there to help her build a strong identity in who we are. I am sorely disappointed in this book and hope that eventually there will be more books to help build up the Messianic children.

I am not qualified to enter the debate on who is a real Jew and who is not, but this book has found an appropriate home in our library. Finding books on the traditions of Messianic Jews is almost impossible, especially children's books, so I am happy with this one.

This is a good book for children (and adults) to understand what it means to be a Messianic Jew. (Messianic Jews are Jews and Christians who worship together in the Jewish style, and also usually live the Jewish lifestyle, but also believe in Jesus as the Messiah.) It talks about the special things that are done as a family. The illustrations are as coloring pages and are simple drawings. I am planning on ordering more copies for my Shabbat pre-school class.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Caution, April 14, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: It is Good!: Growing Up in a Messianic Jewish Family (Paperback)
Those not familiar with Judaism should know that mainstream Judaism does not consider those who call themselves "Messianic Jews" as Jewish, in that some of their teachings contradict basic Jewish belief. This, therefore, would not be a good book to introduce children to Judiasm as it is practiced by the vast majority of Jewish people worldwide.
