The area where I live has water restrictions, so I collect as much water as I can.

Life isn't perfect, may be I can find a way to "fix" the bottom where it is slowly leaking water (sigh) Tape won't do it.

The Big Blue 55 is a bit pricey. I would have been more comfortable paying about half the current price, but it seems to be a pretty good bargain when compared with other plastic rain barrels (which, in my opinion, are all overpriced). Anyway, the barrel is made of sturdy blue plastic and is fairly lightweight. I can easily pick it up empty. I have uploaded two pictures of my installation. As you can see from my side view picture, it has two holes drilled in the side and comes with a spigot and a plug which are interchangeable in either hole. The holes and surrounding sealant are pretty scruffy looking but seem to work fine. I mounted the spigot (comes with Teflon tape) in the bottom hole and placed a gutter downspout extension over the a hole in the top. As you can see in my second top view picture, there are two holes drilled in the top of the barrel. One has a white plug screwed in and the second hole has a black plastic mesh screen over it (held on with four screws). The screen is there to catch any large debris that comes down the drain spout. You can see some debris in my picture. The top lip of the barrel has two very small drain holes drilled in the rim so water doesn't stand on the top of the barrel. After a recent rain, I noticed that water was only tricking through the screen and into the barrel even after I cleared out the debris laying on the screen. It turns out that a lot of air was being trapped between the screen and the water pouring out of the downspout. I needed to loosen the white plug that is in the other top hole to release the air pressure. Once the plug was loosened, rain water flowed freely into the barrel. So far, the barrel is working fine. The two reasons I gave it four stars are, first, it is a little pricey, and, second, it has a scruffy unfinished look about it. But, if you are willing to pay the price and don't mind the looks, the barrel seem to work fine for catching rainwater.

Love it. Very easy to place under the downspout, well husband did it, looked easy enough. We have drained it once and are collecting more rain water.

We bought two of these as part of our efforts toward water recycling and use on our flowers. One is up and running in less than a half hour. I would give 5 stars for the one that came with parts and can be used. Easy to install the included faucet, plug, and washers, and it even came with teflon tape. The other one, sadly, came without parts. When I tried to see about getting the parts sent, it appears the only way to do this is to send the entire thing back (and, as you certainly know, they are big), and for them to send a new one. It appears the parts bag on the second one got cut in shipping so someone, somewhere is probably wondering where a faucet, plus, and washers that are sitting on their floor or street are doing there. Just a note for those who are color concerned. The two we ordered are both blue, but they are different colors of blue. Luckily we figured that does not matter, as they are both good colors, and go well with the rest of the outdoor plans. However, it will be nice when the lighter blue one can be used after I guess I go to Lowes or someplace to buy the missing parts, as it seems silly (even though it would be at Amazon's cost, but still take our time to package it up and get it somewhere for delivery) to return the barrel just to get parts.

I was so thrilled to have this come and set it up without any trouble. The parts that came with it fit easily, however, now that it is has water in it from our recent rains...... it has a steady dripping from the flange and so leaks no matter how tight the faucet is turned or how much Teflon tape is on the treads.

I Am not too keen on how the side ports are mounted on the drum, since they are only glued on, there is nothing on the inside holding them onto the drum. I find this really disturbing. if you notice the plastic plug in the picture as being square where you can use a wrench to tighten it. It actually has some weird 12 point plug that you can't really tighten unless you use pliers. I will need to find another plug to plug this other hole. other than that the drum will work for my needs.
