Kept Me Smiling From Ear to Ear,
By
This review is from: Good Intentions (DVD)
Being a Southerner, only once in a blue moon do I find a film about the Deep South that's done right, and Good Intentions is one of them. What I liked about this movie is that it doesn't offer a cheap attempt at humor every two minutes. It's a completely original story with a terrific cast that offers a few moments that will have you laughing out loud.
What immediately grabs you are the beautiful visuals in this movie. No Hollywood sets here, Good Intentions is shot entirely in rural Georgia. Director Jim Issa perfectly captures the country spirit, as well as the small-town vibe. Another great surprise is the cast, most of which actually hails from the South. Just a heads up: Leann Rimes is front and center on the DVD, but she only gets about 15 minutes of screen time in the movie as Etta's sister Pam. Elaine Hendrix, a real-deal Georgia peach by way of Tennessee, shines in her performance as the beautiful and feisty Etta. The entire cast has plenty of film experience, especially Jon Gries (Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite) as the town's Sheriff. And while this movie is set in the South, it gets its laughs without the slightest use of Southern stereotypes. I myself don't listen to country music, but I have to admit that I loved the soundtrack. There are a few nice bluegrass tracks thrown in, two great Leann Rimes songs, and some original music from The Wrights. Good Intentions isn't a blockbuster. But it's fun, it's charming, and it's a great little movie to watch with friends or family, so don't miss it. And if you have a relative or friend in the Deep South, definitely buy them a copy, I promise they'll thank you for it.

Small Town Southern Charm Movie with Lots of Laughs!,
By Pam Jones (Rutledge, Ga) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Good Intentions (DVD)
I really enjoyed the film Good Intentions. A true Southern cast and story set in a charming and very real tiny rural Georgia town just adds to this movies Southern charm!
The story is a good one with a nice mix of humor and small town crime. Well acted, there are some really funny lines that bring on lots of laughs without being too campy. The cast is great with LeAnn Rimes and Elaine Hendrix - a true Southern peach with no "put on" Southern accents here, along with Luke Perry and others all playing well the small town life. I live in the small Georgia town of Rutledge where this movie was filmed and couldn't wait to see it. I was not dissapointed. I can tell you that funny things really do happen in small towns like this and the writer, director, producers and actors of Good Intentions really captured the spirit of a tiny rural town where everyone knows everyone and not much gets by without being noticed by any and all. We enjoyed having this lovely cast and crew here in Rutledge and would welcome them back any time : ) The music was great and really fits nicely with the film. If you like to sit back, relax and have more than a few good laughs along the way while watching a DVD, then I would highly recommend Good Intentions!

Entertaining, but LeAnn is not the leading lady.,

This review is from: Good Intentions (DVD)
This is a funny flick. I would recommend it, but it looks like the producers were hoping that people would buy this since LeAnn Rimes is the leading lady (as portrayed on the DVD cover), but she only plays a lesser roll.
The film is well done and is quite funny.
