What's new,
By
This review is from: Good Kids, Bad Habits: The RealAge Guide to Raising Healthy Children (Paperback)
I eagerly ordered Good Kids, Bad Habits, hoping for new insights and parenting tips. The first problem was that my children are 12, 14 & 17 years old, and the book's advice targeted parents with much younger children. Unfortunaltely some of us with teens and preteens have still not figured out how best to shepard our children into the healthest possible lifestyles, given our modern culture.
I read the book anyway, and was struck with the thought that very few of the suggestions presented by the author were new or original. Many of the main stream suggestions have been in parents' magazine articles for decades. The title and cover of the book were the most creative and original part of the package. The author is a pediatrician, yet little or no science graced the pages. Of course I was not been able to bring myself to toss the book in the recycle bin. So I have donated the paperback to the local library. A 5 minute scan of the text at the library, should provide you with all its insights.

A good one for your parenting book collection,
This review is from: Good Kids, Bad Habits: The RealAge Guide to Raising Healthy Children (Paperback)
As a mother of 2 1/2 year old twins, I found this book to provide invaluable advice for how to ensure that we parents take steps NOW in order for our children to develop a solid, enduring set of healthy lifestyle habits. What I appreciated most about the book was the Dr. Jen's practical perspective and advice re: small, incremental changes that can be implemented in the near term to help children for the long-term. This book is a great resource for any parent, however new or experienced you are!

What a fantastic book! Useful advice given in a practical and non-judgemental way. Dr. Jen provides a fantastic road map for helping to put your child on the path of a healthy life both physically & mentally. As the Mom of a 9-year old son, I really appreciated her advice on parenting children during the 'tween years and thoughts on self-esteem.

Common Sense Advice,

I ordered the book to find the magic solution to my son's (age 6) bad eating habits. My other 3 kids eat anything. The book had very useful advice but no earth shattering solutions - just good common sense. I enjoyed reading the book and was glad I did, but it did not help. It did reinforce many things were were already doing as a family. It was a good check up.

This book has alot of basics to teach yourself and your child. If you are looking for something more than basics to educate yourself, this is not the book.
It has some helpful ideas.

I was very pleased and happy to have found this book on the internet for less than full price. My doctor recommended this book and I really couldn't afford full price. We are very happy with the book, the price, the seller, the whole experience. Thank you very much for being there for us. The Gustafsons

Solid reference book - not just for new parents!,

Initially I was somewhat skeptical of the book, being that I consider myself somewhat seasoned as a father of 3 kids. Nevertheless, I found that Dr Jen's common-sense tips, and the Healthy Kids Test, proved powerful reminders of what the wife and I should be reinforcing to our kids on a daily basis - if we want them to grow up to be healthier, happier adults. So while it's probably not a "cover to cover" read, it may occupy an important place on your nightstand or bookshelf for years to come.

Ordered a month ago, nothing to show for it and who do I talk to?!,
This review is from: Good Kids, Bad Habits: The RealAge Guide to Raising Healthy Children (Paperback)
Not much to say - I'd have given it NO STARS if I could have. I love the Realage stuff and site, and I love the associated books like "YOU the Owners Manual" but as far as this seller goes ... I feel like I've just thrown money out of the car window. I checked whether I had been charged - of course I had - and then 2 days ago I sent an email to the company. I have yet to hear back from them. I ordered a similar item from a different distributor within minutes of placing this order and recieved that book 2 days after I ordered it - same shipping method. Soooo, it appears that I've been taken. I do NOT advise purchasing from this distributor, I think they're just waiting for me to forget that I ordered anything in the first place.

I have read part of this book. It is work, no easy answers. You have to evaluate, evaluate, evaluate.... I have started with one child, but then the next question is about another child. I'll work it out. But you have to do the work.
