5.0 out of 5 stars Let the Bacchanal Begin, February 11, 2006
This review is from: The Good Life Guide To Enjoying Wine (Hardcover)
Ray Johnson's handy guide to "Enjoying Wine" is the perfect resource tool for anyone who has ever felt overwhelmed by having to choose a wine. In simple, useful and humorous chapters, Johnson takes his years of experience and breaks down the do's and more do's of wine appreciation. He discusses everything from retail sales, marketing a brand, restaurant lists to how to pair wine and food. This book also has worksheets that allow you to apply the knowledge you've gained along the way. A delightful read from a man who obviously knows and loves his wine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best WIne Intro Book Ever, March 25, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Good Life Guide To Enjoying Wine (Hardcover)
There just isn't a better introductory wine book available. I imagine someone who doesn't have much experience with wine picking up this book, and immediately understanding the excitement of learning about wine, finding out what you like best and becoming a life-long wine lover! The book gives a sure formula for trying the various classes of wines to narrow down the vast number of wines available, then learning what to look for within the classes you prefer. Even though Johnson is a widely-proclaimed professional wine educator and taster, there isn't a hint of snobbery, just plain language, written with humor and appreciation. Don't get me wrong, long-time wine drinkers will love the book too!

This review is from: The Good Life Guide To Enjoying Wine (Hardcover)
Finally, a book that gets us out of the musty cellar and the dusty library for a bit of fresh air, sunshine and fun with wine. A great book for anyone who's tired of the "wine snobs" going on and on...and who just wants to enjoy a great glass of wine and wants to know more about what they're drinking!

This review is from: The Good Life Guide To Enjoying Wine (Hardcover)
I love the way the author Ray Johnson makes anyone who reads his book feel new excitement for the tasting of wine!! The hospitality ideas for the guests we serve and the diversity of his background add so much to his presentation. Ray Johnson never talks down to the novice nor does he try to be one who knows it all. He just shares and has a great time about it!!!! His various contributions to the wine industry are fantastic and his desire for everyone to just "Enjoy" and learn, are his greatest assets. Get this book You will Love It!!! Jaysweet

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect gift for the wine lover (expert of just starting)!, February 10, 2006

This review is from: The Good Life Guide To Enjoying Wine (Hardcover)
This book is a great introduction to wine for the novice and is a "breath of fresh air" for the expert who has seen it all. It is a "back to basics" approach that will remind us all of why we got into wine in the first place......because it is fun and is a great part of life. Sit back with a glass of your finest as you enjoy this book (I did)!

This is a super little book for everyone who knows or wants to know a bit about wine and what fun the wine experience can be. It is a very quick read, very practical, very unpretentious and very validating to the premise that to enjoy the wine experience, you simply must enjoy wine and enjoy experience. It is really that simple! Ray's book will have you eagerly anticipating your next uncorking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly rated, January 18, 2006
This review is from: The Good Life Guide To Enjoying Wine (Hardcover)
Although this book is the expressions of a wine educator, it is far from a lecture. Mr. Johnson's very conversational style and user-friendly advice removes a lot of the apprehension surrounding the topic of wine. It includes practical advice such as restaurant procedures and wine store shopping tips, and frank discussions about wine pricing and food and wine pairing. The book is equally appropriate for the wine novice, as well as the wine aficionado who wants to experience a completely new approach to the basics.

It is very highly recommended.
