5.0 out of 5 stars SURPRISE...IT'S ACTUALLY GOOD!
I'm normally not a fan of hip-hop (it's usually much too crass and vulgar for my taste), but when I heard a K'Maro song in a store in Montreal I was hooked! K'Maro's style is actually more toward R&B, though there are a couple of hip-hop tracks (notably "Femme Like U" which is the song that got me to buy this CD in the first place). Actually I've wanted to try this album for once, K'maro is made me laugh on the floor. Not because he can't sing, use of Franglish and low quality songs. He leads the bad stars after Günther as second place.

5.0 out of 5 stars SURPRISE...IT'S ACTUALLY GOOD!, December 15, 2004

I'm normally not a fan of hip-hop (it's usually much too crass and vulgar for my taste), but when I heard a K'Maro song in a store in Montreal I was hooked! K'Maro's style is actually more toward R&B, though there are a couple of hip-hop tracks (notably "Femme Like U" which is the song that got me to buy this CD in the first place). Interestingly, the guy can sing so this is not just rap. Good voice, slightly raspy (sexy, even!), and he sings on key and can hit the notes! How many rappers can say that? Anyway, the surprise twist to all this is that K'Maro is fully bilingual and performs easily in either french or english, often within the same song! Very different and effective. And a bonus for those who might remember 80's pop music...the background vocals are by Nancy Martinez whose big hit was "For Tonight" back in the mid-80's. Overall, a very good and incredibly fun album. (And full lyrics are included so you can follow along and perhaps even try your hand at rapping in french!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great surprise, January 9, 2005

Usually I don't go for French rap, because I always thought that the language is too soft for that. K'maro is the first artist to my knowledge who makes French R&B and Rap-Music sound good. He already caught my attention with Femme like U when it was only on radio for promotion. Well done.

5.0 out of 5 stars I first heard this in TAHITI in 2004 and LOVED IT!, August 5, 2008
This review is from: Good Life (Audio CD)
I was in Tahiti when I first heard FEMME LIKE YOU. It got so much airplay! Dummy me, didn't buy it when I was there. So I spent months trying to track it down until THANKS TO AMAZON FRANCE, I was able to find it, and when it FINALLY arrived months later from France, I was the Happiest Girl in the World! I could have cried, but it was hot that day!

I only speak minimal French, so I never tire of listening to this album, since it ALWAYS SOUNDS NEW! Incidentally, the second album is great too!

The rap is remniscent of Nelly, and some of the American style he obviously borrowed from! It is very catchy hip hop and ends up sounding SEXY no matter what he is saying! He throws out quite a bit of American words too!

A few months ago, the cd GOT STUCK IN MY CAR CD player...welcome now to the SADDEST DAY OF MY LIFE...I had to use a KNIFE to get it out and scratched the h*ll out of it! So it is BACK ON MY WISHLIST to buy another.

Thank God for my iPod in the meantime!

au revoir!

Unlike everyone else, I DO usually like French rap, but K-Maro is just laughable. I love his music, dont get me wrong, but all in all there aren't many redeeming qualities to it. His voice is raspy and he can't really sing, and he mixes French and English in such a ridiculous way. And yet, for some reason that I can't quite place.... I love it. Possibly, I love it because I think it's funny, but I love it none the less.
