4.0 out of 5 stars This film is an satisfactory way to spend 96minutes.
I bought this film sight unseen as that is the only way I could see it. No video store had it.{most had never heard of it}And waiting for it to show up on t.v. could take months. I have had mixed results buying films unseen but this one did not disappoint. It won't go down as one of the best I have seen but I don't get the feeling the people behind it were shooting for...

I bought this because when Gregory Hines recently died I wanted to see those movies he did that I had missed. Perhaps a poor reason, but better late than never. He was an accomplished actor and dancer. This DVD has a great price on it as well for the entertainment you will get out of it. I was pleasantly surprised. This is one of those feel good sleepers you run across...

I bought this film sight unseen as that is the only way I could see it. No video store had it.{most had never heard of it}And waiting for it to show up on t.v. could take months. I have had mixed results buying films unseen but this one did not disappoint. It won't go down as one of the best I have seen but I don't get the feeling the people behind it were shooting for greatness. They were just trying to tell the story of two men trying to rise above a handicap. And as that it works well. It contains a GREAT deal of bathroom humor. I'm not bothered by it but it's dwelt on to the point it becomes a little tiresome. Otherwise it's an enjoyable film. The performances by Hines and D'Onofrio are VERY good. I found D'Onofrio very belivable as a blind man and most of the films dramatic burden is carried by him. I am sure I'll spend 96 minutes with it agian.

This is one of those feel good sleepers you run across now and then.

When Hines, playing a paraplegic, decides to enlist the aid of a blinded football star, played by D' Onofrio, to win a white water race, anything can happen. The friendship that develops is earned through hard work and the realization that no matter what, we can move forward with our lives.

Fans of movies like "Brian's Song", "Field of Dreams", "Cool Runnings", and "Amazing Grace" should enjoy it. Other than some ocassional bad language the movie is suitable for most the family.

4.0 out of 5 stars Four stars for the warm-fuzzy!, July 12, 1999

What a "happy movie!" Okay, so I'm a bit of a "Pollyanna," but I landed on this movie by chance one evening channel-surfing and found myself on the edge of my chair, chin resting on my hands, big grin across my face -- it's a "happy" movie ... I laughed, I cried -- I liked it so much I made my husband watch it with me the next night -- we laughed, we cried ... It's got humor (some kind of raunchy, but funny in its context), it's got relationship stuff, overcoming adversity stuff, struggles, victories -- it just made me feel "happy." Some of the situations these guys get into made us laugh out loud. I really, really liked the movie. Oh, and what a treat, for a former Barney Miller fan, to see good ol' Max Gail on screen! Great fun, great movie.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Luck is Great Fun, February 22, 2008
This review is from: Good Luck (DVD)
This movie is full of fun. But more than that it goes deep into the feelings of all of us by examing the stories of two handicapped and unlikely companions on an impossible dream. Be aware, the language is crude and the discussions on the level you might expect for two single guys alone on the road for days as they travel to a white water raft race. AND every single cast member (not just the stars) seems perfect for their roles, right down to the bit parts. A great film that will make you laugh, cheer, and maybe examine your own life. Definitely delivers what it says...a feel good film.

4.0 out of 5 stars Basically, I can watch any movie with Vincent D'onofrio, December 13, 1999

When I found this movie at the video store I was little nervous but after about fifteen minutes into it I really started to enjoy it. Yes, it is most definitely a guy movie and there is some vulgar bathroom humor. But, the acting and the theme make this a worthwhile rental. I really wish this movie was longer because near the end is when you can really feel the chemistry between D'onofrio and Hines. They really get comfortable with one another and I wanted more. The last thirty minutes of the movie is absolutly terrific because it just really picks up once they get to Gold City. Plus, the audience gets a better indepth perception of Olee(especially) and Lemely. I think that Vincent D'onofrio does a good job at playing a blind man. Unlike some actors he makes it believable throughout that he cannot see(it very natural it is like he is not acting, the way it should be). Rent this movie it is good I mean it only made like 40,000$ at the theater these small films need our support and plus how can you not respect an actor who can do a multimillion dollar film(Men in Black) and then do a tiny film like this one in the same year. Also, I would like to add that I am quite jealous of the guy who wrote a review and he was in the movie. I mean that is pretty cool it is pretty hard to top that! Hey I can be emailed at littlejake4@ivillage.com if you like the film or not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Luck, May 12, 2008

Good Luck features two great actors, the late Gregory Hines and the brilliant Vincent D'Onofrio. They performed very well together having almost all the scenes with both actors. It was amazing to see Hines, such a great dancer as well, portray a pariplegic without even the slightest hint of leg movement and D'Onofrio portraying a blind person without going over the top. Also very interesting to see D'Onofrio transform from an overblown ego, pro football player to a bitter, lonely man. Great movie in that yes it had very touching moments but a lot of great comic moments as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny, Feel good, nice guys finish last movie, March 10, 1999

While this movie was filmed in the Coos Bay, Oregon area I got to be an extra in it. I had my doubts about it at the time. But now that I have seen it, I say it is well worth watching if you like humor and a feel good movie. Some profanity and mild nudity. Not for the real youngins. BTW, I am the guy in the blue baseball cap at the bar, the girl I was flirting with is my sister.

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally Underrated!!, September 4, 2003
This review is from: Good Luck [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a fabulous "feel good" movie. I've watched it a dozen times and it's still a favorite to pop in the VCR when company comes calling. This movie never got the publicity it deserved so it's pretty much a surprise when I play it for guests. Then, everyone wants a copy. I probably would never have heard of it myself if my mom hadn't been an extra in it. It was filmed in Winchester Bay, Oregon where my mom had a gift shop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable feel-good flick, December 20, 2005

I think I can safely say this movie is one of the best purchases I have made all year. After waiting for over three months for Amazon to finally tell me they could not obtain stock, and thinking I had missed out (trying to get hold of Vincent D'Onofrio films in Australia is next to impossible), I found a seller in the Amazon Marketplace selling a used copy for $5. I snapped it up, and I wasn't disappointed.

I won't go into the details of the film, as that has already been outlined. But this movie was immensely enjoyable. It wasn't a 'we will conquer all' film in the typical sense of the word (think any Hollywood sporting flick where the underdog makes a comeback and wins against all odds). It was, however, a feel-good flick in the sense that the two main characters attain achievements that no one else thought they could manage.

There's plenty of humour through the movie, and it has its crude moments, but they can be overlooked in the grand scheme of the entire movie. The entire film was simple, but fantastic, and much less of a cliche than I expected it to be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Too good for Mortals!, August 16, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Good Luck (DVD)
This was one of those pleasant surprises that make you think that the heavens are suddenly smiling on you because you found it. From beginning to end, this is an "adult" fun film. There are a number of raunchy moments that only D'Onofrio could make seem real and necessary, and which only Gregory Hines could field with compassion and dignity!

This is the story of two misfits who together don't quite ever make a whole... but who are delightful to tag along with. It's really hard not to get caught up in their adventures. Right to the final scenes, it's just too funny! The secret to the film is that it is composed of characters that are every-day folks, and don't we really enjoy watching ourselves?

This is a five star film. Very enjoyable. And, if you like it, consider trying D'Onofrio's Happy Accidents - another film in the same light-hearted vein.
