In the start of a new trilogy, Harris follows 13 years in the lives of Hal Dillon and Ben MacAllister, two very disparate men bound by their best friend's suicide. Both men travel the world seeking to outrun their memories: Hal travels to study ancient civilizations in South America, and Ben works as a salvage diver in Greece. In Greece, Ben meets Jo Daniels, a young Englishwoman on holiday and courts her until she agrees to marry him. The friends are separated by distance and time, until a horrific tragedy brings Hal back into the MacAllisters' lives. The novel ends rather abruptly, and no mention is made of when to expect the second book. Harris is also the author of The Quiet Earth and The Herb Gatherers. Libraries with an existing Harris readership can expect demand for her latest effort and should purchase accordingly. Melanie Duncan
About the Author
Rudolf Steiner became a respected and well-published scientific, literary, and philosophical scholar. He developed his earlier philosophical principles into an approach to methodical research of psychological and spiritual phenomena that has led to innovative and holistic approaches in medicine, philosophy, religion, education, science, agriculture, and the arts. He founded the General Anthroposophical Society, which has branches throughout the world.
Harris is Secretary for Inter-Faith Relations for the Methodist Church in the UK. She was previously a research fellow in Religious Studies at Westminister College in Oxford, England.
