5.0 out of 5 stars Love this book!
This book is not only a diet in meaning one that helps you lose weight, but also a book that teaches you the foods that you should eat to be healthy, happy, and satisfied with your eating and yourself. 1.0 out of 5 stars Kindle version not useful & blood sugar is crashing!
The author suggests copying the diet template - which makes sense, so you can easily go back & forth between it, the day-by-day meal plans, & the substitutions in the appendix. Unfortunately, the publisher does not allow access to Kindle notes on-line, so there is no way to copy anything from the Kindle version, except by writing it out by hand. The way this book is...

This book is not only a diet in meaning one that helps you lose weight, but also a book that teaches you the foods that you should eat to be healthy, happy, and satisfied with your eating and yourself. Within days of starting to eat the foods suggested. I found myself feeling happier, more awake and more energetic, and I am not restricting the foods that I enjoy! I was suprised at many of the foods that were suggested to eat every day.

I have had a hard time with not wanting to "diet" or restrict what I eat, and this helps retrain my thinking about what foods and fats are appropriate to eat to help me feel better! I suggest this book to anyone, whether or not they are looking to lose weight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Feel Better and Look Better!, January 20, 2007
WOW! I have tried them all....but this diet is first about feeling great, and then you shed pounds and fat at the same time. I followed the plan and found a new level of energy I didn't know I had,and all the time I was losing weight. It is so much easier to follow a plan when you are upbeat and energetic. I find that it works even when I travel, have business dinners, etc. I have turned friends onto the plan and everyone loves it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great diet information, March 9, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The book had good usuable information. I found the foods recommended were readily available at the supermarket. Most of the foods are loved by all. My mood did lighten up and I lost weight the first week. As a personal trainer I have recommended it to my clients.

5.0 out of 5 stars not a hard diet to follow, January 9, 2007
By
I found this diet to be an easy to follow plan and I felt better after a few days of following it. I wake up in a good mood and I don't feel as if I am depriving myself of anything that I like to eat-chocolate anyone? The website is a great source of support. Thank you Dr. Kleiner for putting me in a "good mood".

I love this diet. I have bipolar and this diet helps me stay happy. Best of all Ive been losing weight and dont feel hungry on this either. I love and look forward to all my meals. Especially the snacks. I eat at certain times so it helps me to not be hungry at the wrong times and eat to much. The best part is the nightly cocoa. A diet requiring you to have cocoa every night must be a good diet huh. I recomend this to everyone whos looking for a diet who likes to eat and still have a good mood :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Advice. Great Diet., January 8, 2007
By
Finally, a diet that helps you feel good while you're losing weight. I never thought that food could actually have an effect on mood. Dr. Kleiner's plan is eye-opening, as well as easy to follow, and doesn't feel restrictive (I can even have a little bit of chocolate). Most important, I'm learning how to eat in a healthy way. And it's working!

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful! There Is Someting For Everyone, March 30, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This reviewer did not attempt to remember or follow any of the extensive lists of healthy menus, recipes, shopping lists, charts or food groupings listed in the pages of "The Good Mood Diet". All those are certainly worthy and helpful to those foodies who can follow instructions. This (male) reader cannot keep his fats, sugars, carbos, calories, proteins and portion sizes straight. More power to those who can! Those folks who are so able will dive deep into the pages of GMD. But what does a reader do who depends on his eagle eyed wife to "supervise" his diet? The answer is to read GMD carefully, not worry about lists but to glean what ideas he finds. And for the similarly challenged, there is a lot to like here. This reviewer learned-or was reinforced- about sunflower seeds, canned salmon, green tea, hot cocoa before bedtime and (basic!) Subway sandwiches. No meatball heroes with extra melted cheese! There are also helpful sections on ordering in restaurants and shopping in supermarkets and even useful advice on exercise: Especially relevant to this reader was the authoress' admonition to take 10,000 steps/day, add intensity to workouts and make maximum use of the STAIRS! GMD would make a wonderful health package with Therese Iknoian's "Fitness Walking". Iknoian writes like a big sister, Kleiner like a mom-quite a combination. Since this is self-help book, GMD should not be read once and discarded but kept handy for timely reference. It may seem trite to write that a book has something for everyone but GMD does. Recommended!

This review is from: The Good Mood Diet: Feel Great While You Lose Weight (Kindle Edition)
The way this book is written, it's necessary to flip back & forth between sections. It simply does not lend itself well to Kindle.

After almost 3 weeks on this diet, I have lost 11 pounds, but my hypoglycemia has never been worse. This diet has good 'bones' (like adding ground flax seed and more salmon to the diet, and some basic exchanges) but I've had to modify individual components a lot, and her recipes are not at all to my taste - weird ingredients, lack of information about hidden ingredients (such as cereals she recommends having sucralose and different brands of yoghurt varying greatly in sugar content).

As a hypoglycemic, I am finding better advice & recipes from other books (on Kindle, from amazon.com), especially:
The Sugar Solution Cookbook from the editors of Prevention magazine
The Good Carb Cookbook by Sandra Woodruff
and for overall information and a much greater understanding of blood glucose stability and diet:
The Glycemic-Load Diet by Rob Thompson

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, January 18, 2007

Dragonfly "Deb" (Lakewood, OH USA) - See all my reviews
I read an excerpt of this book on another web site, so I was excited to buy and read it. I wasn't disappointed! It is easy to read and understand why the diet works. Even if, after reading it, you decide not to follow all of the diet, the diet encouragement the book gives really made me want to stick to a diet, any diet! The key to this diet is the list of foods to eat. The way you are supposed to eat them, small meals throughout the day, combining proteins with carbs, etc., is similar to a lot of other diets. Bottom line for me is: I may not have a better mood from eating what they advise me to, but I have a much better mood about dieting in general (and have lost a couple of pounds already!)

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as great as I was hoping., September 25, 2007
I can see where this "diet" can help people feel good, but it is very impractical for everyday life. For example, the author recommends making a homemade smoothie for your 12:00 snack, which would be fine if I wasn't at work at 12:00. For those who don't want a smoothie at noon, she suggests a small omelet instead. Again, pretty impractical for people who do not work from home.

Despite the impracticalities of following the diet religiously, I have learned a few eating tricks that help me stay full during the day and do improve my energy level.
