4.0 out of 5 stars A slightly more balanced view, October 2, 2000
By
"renebarrow" (London /Stockholm/Malaysia) - See all my reviews
I read this book about a year ago and I admit I did enjoy it. However, I did not experience all the things that I had hoped for when I bought it i.e. closer relationship with Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, the Father etc. Nor did I see the power start to flow in my life.

I have been a Christian pretty much all my life and have parents who were involved in or saw first hand amazing miracles, deliverances from demons and other things. However, I have grown up in a different generation. The Charismatic movement and the Indonesian Revival has long since past. We need something new for a new generation.

That is why I had hoped Benny Hinn's book would have aided me with what I am searching for. A closer relationship with God, and an experience first hand of the power of God.

I have heard what Benny Hinn has to say about the Trinity, and the 9 Spirits of God and I know a lot of his teaching. He is someone I respect. However, most people judge, based on what a friend of a friend of theirs heard. You may call him a heretic if you want, but at least don't do it without some amount of first-hand factual knowledge of him to back up what you say. He has never said that there is no Trinity. To do so would be obvious heresy. However he has talked about the 9 Spirits of God which appear in the Book of Revelation. However, you must understand what he is trying to say.

Anyway, this is a book review and not a discourse on the validity of Benny Hinn. In a nutshell, you can split the book up into two halves. The first half is like a brief biography of his life, where he was born, catholic upbringing, becoming a born again Christian and experiencing the "baptism of the Holy Spirit" (Charismatic understanding). And continues on to how he experiences the presence of the Holy Spirit in his daily life. It is his testimony, and his experience of how the Holy Spirit started relating with him.

The second half of the book starts concentrating more on the Biblical theology behind what he says. i.e. mainly a more intimate fellowship of the Holy Spirit and the power of God. However, what is stressed more is the active relationship that any Christian can have with the Holy Spirit. Readers will see the Hinn points out that the Holy Spirit will always glorify Christ and never Himself, as Hinn provides examples of mistakes he has made with the Holy Spirit. One example is when he has had such a great time with the Holy Spirit, that he starts praising Him and glorifying Him. The Spirit then stops him in his tracks and corrects him on who he should be glorifying. One can tell that a few reviewers here have never actually read the book but have merely scanned it or maybe just looked at the chapter titles on the contents page while in a bookshop. And this is how the Second half carries on, providing a few eye-opening Biblical concepts on the Holy Spirit and our relationship with Him. Thoroughly grounded in the Word of God, I would highly recommend this book for those seeking to understand our relationship with the Holy Spirit to a higher degree. I would give it 5 stars for being a good book.

However, the book promises that "you too can experience the same". And I would give it a 1 star for failing that promise. One must understand however, that different people may experience things differently, as others who have reviewed can testify to this fact. Do not put your hopes in a book. Ultimately, if you want everything the book says is available, you must have faith in God...and wait.

To all sceptics, remain open. And to all believers, don't beleieve everything you hear, but test everything by the Word of God.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great journey through the anointing of God, July 1, 2004

(REAL NAME)
For some the name Benny Hinn may conjure up thoughts of swindlers and con-artists just waiting to take a buck. Many people who "hate" Benny Hinn will, if they're honest with themselves, admit that they have very little belief in any type of modern works of the Holy Spirit also. The book details the life and journey of a man that becomes mightily used of God. The book displays the awesome power of the Holy Spirit and how through the manifest presence of God lives are changed forever. If Benny Hinn is a swindler then he is a swindler mightliy used of God to bring millions of souls into the Father's kingdom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Changing: A MUST for the Born-Again Christian!!!!!!, January 16, 1999
By A Customer
This book wasn't written by Benny Hinn...It was written by the long-forgotten and underestimated third person of the Trinity: The Holy Spirit. This book will draw you into a new relationship and level with God, into a greater revelation of who God is! Since reading the book a few months ago (I am now re-reading it and ordering it for my sister) I have learned a great deal about who He is, and what He wants for my life. I am learning what I can do for Him, and how pleased He is when He presents me with one of my many requests! Sometimes I know that the Holy Spirit is so excited and pleased when He grants a request of mine that I can almost see Him jumping up and down!!! He is really glorified, explained, and introduced in this book, and you can definitely expect a much more real relationship with God. My faith has SOARED and many mountains have been moved in my life by God since reading this book for the first time. The absolute best thing about this book is, the Holy Spirit is there to verify every word. Completely AWESOME and if you don't have a personal relationship with Jesus, this book will make you want one!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars PLEASE DON'T BELIEVE THE BAD REVIEWS!!!!, September 8, 2004
If you are really saved, and believe Jesus gave you the wonderful gift of the Holy Spirit "The Geat Comforter" to help, teach, and love you, then read on... Don't believe the poor souls that claim to have read this book and then gave it bad reviews. They obviously missed the whole point and essence of the Third Person of the Trinity. It doesn't matter who wrote this book, and your opinions on the author are irrelevant, he is just a man. Look beyond that, and once you FIRST, allow Jesus to come into your heart after claiming that you are a sinner, and believing that God's favor is now upon you, read this book and discover the person that Jesus himself couldn't make a move without while on this Earth. People who are judging the author are not following God's Word, even though they are telling you to "just read your bible". The author did not write this book to "make a buck", he is pouring his heart into this book to share what every Christian should know... the awesome love of the Holy Spirit! And that, my friends, is priceless. I write this, as a deep lover of the Holy Spirit, who is my best friend and teacher. He has told me things and helped me, and said he will never leave me. Please don't turn your back on Him, just because of a few "ugly words" written by ones who don't understand. Jesus said that people will perish for lack of knowledge. If you do choose to believe the previous claims that this book is a waste of your precious money, then just read the book of Acts, 1 Chronicles, Romans, and Galatians in your Bible. But as for me, after I read Benny Hinn's book, it allowed me to understand the power and the love that they talk about in the Bible. It doesn't make the Bible come alive, it makes your spirit come alive, and full of the amazing and beautiful Holy Spirit!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, August 2, 2003
I believe, as a Christian, nothing other than salvation is more important to know about then the revelation and work of the Holy Spirit in these endtimes. Pastor Benny Hinn in his outstanding book, "Good Morning, Holy Spirit" opens the door to a better understanding of the One who is at work within us and around us.
Often the Christian community of writers seems to overlook the importance of the third person of the Trinity. We as the Body of Christ need to learn how to cooperate with His work within us and on the earth.
Pastor Hinn shares his story of meeting and growing in his relationship with the Holy Spirit. He speaks of His personality and how important He is in the Godhead and encourages you as a believer to hunger after His companionship, as He greatly hungers after yours.
I enjoyed this book and felt it helped my spiritual walk. We need more like it!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book changed my life., April 26, 2005
My dad recommended me to read this book, and my life has never been the same since. As some reviews and critics tend to criticize Benny Hinn as flashy and materialistic, what is true is true and what is not is not. And I promise you will find truth in this book

5.0 out of 5 stars I was anointed by the Holy Spirit as I read this book., September 17, 1999
By A Customer
Before I finished the first page of Good Morning Holy Spirit I received an anointing from the Holy Spirit. It did not occur at a stirring moment and I did not feel moved in any way by what I read on that first page. However, I know when the Spirit moves in me and He moved in me as I read that book. The Holy Spirit blessed me.

If you come to this book expecting earthly wisdom then you will be greatly disappointed. Mr. Hinn, a man of God, dispenses God's wisdom in this book. The very first step toward receiving God's wisdom is receiving the Holy Spirit as an active part of your life. Benny Hinn will show you how. My God bless you as you read this book. He surely blessed me.

1.0 out of 5 stars A remarkable story, pity it has no basis in Scripture., June 11, 2001
Is sound teaching supported by Biblical truth what you are looking for? Are you seeking a life on which to model your Christian walk? If the answer to either question is . . . . . yes, then steer well clear of this book. This excursion into the literary world fills 177 pages and is an autobiographical testimony of Benny Hinn's life and experience from his formative years as a Christian to the date of writing. The focus being his introduction to, and deepening relationship with, the Holy Spirit. Whilst the book contains numerous scripture references from both Old and New Testaments, it becomes increasingly apparent that they are present only where they lend weight to Hinn's arguments. Old Testament accounts of the way the Spirit operated are used as a model for the believer, the Spirit comes and goes, anoints and removes His anointing. All designed to add weight to flawed arguments the reader is inextricably drawn into Hinn's world, where experience determines 'theology' and the reasoning is invariably a posteriori. The influence of Kathryn Kuhlman is a major factor on his experience and understanding of the Holy Spirit. His 'baptism in the Holy Spirit' is largely orthodox being accompanied by 'speaking in tongues'. This experience, for him at least, is insufficient and so he invents a theology; 'the anointing of the Holy Spirit'. All too often though the scriptures used to back up this teaching speak only about 'the baptism in the Holy Spirit'. The major thrust of the book is to present the Holy Sprit as a person. Nothing wrong with that in itself, but Hinn's 'Trinitarian theology' is all too often stretched to breaking point in order to prove his point. The Father and the Son are constantly 'located' away from the earth, thus allowing the Holy Spirit control over this domain. Some of the reasoning borders on the ludicrous: we have hands and feet, a heart and emotions and since we were created in God's image He too must have hands, feet, a heart and emotions, and so on. The book is riddled with such jargon, rhetoric and 'helpful' illustrations. Unfortunately, they all too often only serve to confuse the issue further. For example: the reason why Jesus didn't heal people was because the Father did not ask the Holy Spirit to request Jesus to do it. There are other astonishing and downright arrogant statements - His relationship with the Holy Spirit is like a parent and a child; only Hinn is the parent. The Holy Spirit begs him for just five more minutes of his company and God rubs his forehead to thank him for spending time in prayer. On one occasion he would have us believe he wept uncontrollably for more than three weeks. The book promises much which through close, though not too close inspection it fails to deliver. Having an experience does not necessarily make your theology sound. Any amount of Christian jargon and obscure illustrations will not make it sound. Lasting fruit comes when we start from the sure ground of the Word of God and proceed forward, rather than starting from an experience and attempting a find a meandering path back to the Word. Using scripture out of context and without application is also fruitless. The book will appeal to the masses of people who make a Christian life of attending conferences, healing rallies and the like, but for those seeking a daily walk with the Lord in humility and truth it's a no go. I gave the book one star since you can't give it zip.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read it with me...., October 30, 1999
By A Customer
After reading this book, I felt enormously encouraged. Benny shares just about the Lord I know. I then ordered five copies to give to some friends... just because I think his honest description tells about God what I would like to be able to tell them, and he does that in a way I can stand behind.

Nevertheless, reading the 21 reactions here on the Amazone page, I think that some of the critics are right. He might describe some things not in a theological sound way; but I see that more as because he writes not as an analist, but as someone with the enthousiasm of a child. At the same time, I do not understand his personal wealth; he is rich; but if that is wrong in him (I see his TV program, and his ministry crusades, and really do not think he is l o o k i n g after money; at least, I was never asked to give), I see that apart from his spiritual message. But that's my opinion... others see it as unacceptable if a minister earns a big salary.

My conclusion is still, that I really recommend the book. And if I do that, it is for one reason: I saw the fruit of it in my heart, and my wife's heart. It drawed us nearer to God and caused unity between us in our reverence towards Him. I think that is something the devil would not like to achieve.

By the way.... Also Jesus was criticized, similar things were said about Him. That sole fact doesn't prove Benny Hinn right, I know.... But if you read the book, and after that you read the critics, I think you will understand what I mean. I am grateful for Benny Hinns ministry and books.
