In my opinion, this is the very best of Carmen Lundy. I have been searching for this album for 10 years! When I saw her at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2000 I was hoping she would sing from it but her performance was still outstanding! There's just something about her voice, melody, and beauty that is absolutely fantastic! She is my favorite!

Carmen's opening song "Time Is Love" is a rousing, upbeat anthem of joyous soul!!

There are 2 versions of "Dindi" on this cd. The original version is very stylized and perfected. The alternate take comes quietly from inside her soul. Just listen to the longing in her voice as the arrangement glides behind her.

Carmen begins with a dramatic intro on "The Lamp Is Low", then there is a twist as a Latin-arrangement gently swings in the background to her cooking jazz vocal.

Lucky for us that we get to experience 2 versions of "Perfect Stranger" on this cd. Can you pick a favorite? The original version has the full orchestra/rousing vocal treatment. The alternate take swings with a jazz combo and Carmen's saucy vocal.

Such deep feelings stir in Carmen's original version of "Good Morning Kiss"! There is warm fluidity in the alternate take of this song.

"Show Me That You Love Me" is one of Carmen's original compositions and it is hot!! There are many moods and tempos to experience in this song.

"Love For Sale" is a very funky long version mix of vocal and instrumental jazz.

This cd is a must for jazz lovers and Carmen Lundy fans alike. Also looking for Carmen on You Tube and accessing her website will bring you the concert dvd which is a treat for all Carmen fans.

I had the pleasure of being introduced to Carmen Lundy during a performance in Hartford, CT a few years ago. She gets 2 thumbs up from me. Her songs are fresh and new, her delivery a delight, and her voice soothingly transporting. Great music always recharges my batteries. Carmen Lundy is one of the artists I turn to for a boost in a calm way! Think Tony Bennett, but with fresh, new material and performed by an equally talented, classy woman. My recommendation....give Carmen a try.

To my ears, Carmen Lundy is a pop singer who sometimes sings jazz, as opposed to a jazz singer who sometimes sings pop. If you are interested in the latter, you need go no further than Ms Lundy's "label mates" at Justin Time Records - Jeri Brown and Ranee Lee. But back to Ms Lundy....

With the caviat that Ms Lundy is not a jazz singer per se, I've given "Good Morning Kiss" four stars. Ms Lundy has a wonderfully rich, resonant voice. The lady can sing and it's a pleasure to hear her. Here, backed by more people than I care to mention, (although the list includes Jon Faddis on trumpet and Steve Turre on trombone), she beats the ever lovin' stuffing out of a couple of standards and a fistful of originals, (although I confess that I can't stand her version of "Dindi" - or anybody else's for that matter - why oh why does EVERYBODY record this piece of schmaltz?).

Justin Time has done an excellent job on the sonics: Clean and crisp.

Bottom Line: "Good Morning Kiss," ain't jazz, but it ain't bad.
