Editorial Reviews

2012 release that finds Pnau, the Australian duo, reworking some of Elton John's biggest hits and creating new modern masterpieces. ''I've been doing a remix project with Australian duo Pnau. I gave them free rein on all my master tapes and they have come up with some extraordinary new versions of our songs,'' Elton John explains. ''The first single, 'Turn Around and Say Good Morning to the Night', which is a reworking of 'Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters', is already getting a great reaction from radio.'' Mercury.

Good Morning to the Night
Have been playing this album almost daily, fan of Elton since the 70's and was blown away with this release.
The songs stand by themselves as well as making you want to re-listen to the original Albums and songs they were sampled from.
Amazing Album, will be giving copies to families & friends.
Recommend the Deluxe version because 8 tracks will seem too short.

I got this one wondering if it could be pulled off using Elton John's catalog with the Australian duo Pnau. Well, happy to say it worked and expect this album to be the sleeper hit among fans of Elton John and to expose the world to Pnau. The reworking of Elton John songs kind of reminds me of The Beatles "Love" album but unlike that album this one never involved a Las Vegas show or circus. Just reworked songs by these artists into a whole different audience. I never liked the "Love" album which is no secret but this album was not sent through the media blitz as most albums like this one associated by such a artist as well known as Elton John. So give this album a shot, it might just grow on you, it worked on me considering I collect Elton John and thought this one would be good for the collection only. I was wrong, a nice collection of songs. I give it 5 stars for the music & 1 star for being FAR to short for a album released on compact disc.
Drop by my website sometime for a visit @ "JudeMac Forever" & check this album out!

I received my cd and played it many times.I love it.It was very risky for Elton to go ahead and approve this project. He did oversee the project and had final word as to what tracks would be released paying tribute to his back catalogue of songs. I find it very refreshing and creative by Pnau and Elton to have done a superb job on this endeavor. It could have been disastrous but to the contrary in my opinion they nailed it. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea. However, being a long time fan since 1970,I am very happy with the album. It reminds me of the 1970's disco clubs. I always loved dance music. Compared to rap and hip hop this album blows that crap away. I highly recommend it and I believe it crosses generational gaps.

I've been a huge Elton fan since 1973. Reach into the deepest, darkest corner of the Elton John "vault", pull something out and I know it. Word-for-word, note-for-note. So when I heard about this "album", I wondered. Who the hell is Pnau and what are they doing to my EJ songs? Well, I must say, I can't stop listening to these 8 songs. Make no mistake about it, it's Elton and his band you're hearing from the original cuts. But Pnau has set the tempo to these songs and put it all together brilliantly. They're obviously huge EJ fans themselves by virtue of their using B-sides and "album songs" that your average Joe has never heard before. So there is something new for new listeners. And they have a great ear too. They picked out some great EJ Band instumentals for this record. It's a great reminder to Elton John fanatics, exactly why they are Elton John fanatics.

I love Elton John's (and Bernie Taupin's) music. I usually do not like cover songs because the "new" version seems to lack the same dynamics that the "old" version has. And honestly, I wasn't that familiar with Pnau's music, so it generally is the kind of music I would avoid.
However, I heard a little sample of "Good Morning to the Night" and I wanted to hear more. So I listened to a few samples of the rest of the album and I decided to buy the album.
I was really bowled over this music. It's not so much Elton John's (and Bernie Taupin's) music, it is what Pnau creates with it. Something vaguely familiar about the music but not really. You will recognize bits and pieces of Elton's (and Bernie's) music in the reworked pieces, but it is as far from a cover album as you can get.

My suggestion, if you are the least bit intrigued, buy the music. It's most likely something you never listened to before and sometimes it's good to shake your mind up with something new. Plus it's fun trying to pick out the various songs that are used in the new music. SO let your ears have some fun and buy this.
