4.0 out of 5 stars The Clean, Soft side of Joan...
This is still one of the MOST listened to Jett albums in my collection. All time greats; If Ya Want My Love, Just Lust, and the title track. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not the Worst
This is not JJ's weakest album -- that would be "The Hit List" (which is still worth giving a listen, actually) -- but it's not that close to her best, either.

That said, getting backing from the Beach Boys on "Fun Fun Fun" was a stroke of genius, another Jett version of "Roadrunner" is always welcome, "This Means War" isn't...

The only let down on the entire album is that it is kept so "clean". I always got a feeling that something is being held back on this album, like....angst,aggression maybe? If you ever got to see Joan perform Just Lust live in concert, then you would have seen the way it was supposed to have been done! I blame this on Columbia records mainly. You notice a change on Jett recordings when they go from Colubia to Warners. This Album is exaclty what is says it is...simply GOOD MUSIC! I love it! Needs to be in any true rock n' roll fans collection!

And the title cut is Incredible> If "Good Music" was theonly listenable cut among a mass of repulsive garbage, this CD would still rate at least two stars.

Joan and the Blackhearts know the history of rock'n'roll, and they demonstrate that fact here, with a quick musical tour of the genre that reaches a conclusion that i reached some time ago -- "I could be all right if I could hear a loud guitar all night!"

Long Live Good Music!

Long Live Joan Jett!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great but often overlooked album, May 23, 2007

This is a great cd from the queen of noise herself. The title track is will blow you away as will others. It's a shame this album has not gotten the credit it deserves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, March 10, 2002
This review is from: Good Music (Audio CD)
In my opinion the best studio album of the queen of rock'n'roll. There is a whole lot of great songs on it: „Good Music", „This Means War", „Roadrunner" (by Jonathan Richman), „Fun Fun Fun" (by the Beach Boys) and „You Got Me Floatin'" (by Jimmy Hendrix). My favorite Joan Jett song however is „Light Of Day" (by Bruce Springsteen). (Caution: This title is not contained on all CD versions!). Also the semi autobiographic movie with the same title is quite worth seeing. I am still waiting for a live album of Joan Jett!

4.0 out of 5 stars a definite Joan Jett buy, September 7, 2004
This review is from: Good Music (Audio CD)
this album may be even better than Up Your Alley ... and that's saying a lot. The songs that aren't absolutely great (most of them) are better than her usual not-great songs ...

3.0 out of 5 stars Hasty recording, November 26, 2000

Recorded very quickly by Jett, just after she completed her acting chores for "Light Of Day", Joan signed to a new label and gave them a soft, hurried sell. The title track(despite some forced, car-commercial uplift)is tuneful(and much better here than on the butchered-for-time 45 release)and "If Ya Want My Luv" is decidedly ominous, but new fans of Jett's won't appreciate this album being layered in a sugar-coating that gets repetitive, at times even annoying. And the record is awfully brief--couldn't they have issued this with some outtakes(the B-side of "Good Music" was "Fantasy", which ended up on FLASHBACK)?

4.0 out of 5 stars Good music by the Blackhearts., October 26, 2011

Joan's 5th studio offering 1986's "Good Music" #161, is just that good music. The Beach Boy harmonies of the title track #83 hot 100, is pure gold. "This Means War", is top notch Joan, other tunes are the classic covers "Roadrunner" by the Modern Lovers, "Fun, Fun, Fun" by the Beach Boys and "You Got Me Floating" by Hendrix. Other good songs are "If Ya Want My Luv", "Just Lust" and "Contact", excellent rocks songs. This album died a fast death. It would be another 2 years before she got another gold record with the album "Up Your Alley". This album should of sold in the millions, but it didn't, radio programmers back in the day missed out on some damn "Good Music" here.
