After finishing several all-too-depressing tomes, I picked up Ms. Mignerey's THE GOOD NEIGHBOR expecting -- as I always do from her books --a strong story with characters I care about, a nicely-written mystery/suspense element, and a guaranteed happy ending.I wasn't disappointed. Set in small-town Colorado, this story of a wrongly-accused woman with a tragic past and a solid good-guy of a homicide detective who can't help falling for her kept the pages turning and made me glad I'd picked up the book. The faith element is subtle but never "preachy", the violence is minimal, and the writing is smooth and readable. Very entertaining and highly recommended.

I'm an author who writes murder mysteries and detective stories. I know a good one when I read it.Sharon's The Good Neighbor is definitely one of those. She blends the complexities life and conflict to perfection. A book worth reading.

Megan's basic belief is if she does the right thing and is open and truthful, God will take care of things. Simple, huh? In theory, we can agree. But what if you were accused of the murder of your neighbor's useless grandson? What if you were heard saying she would be better if he were dead? Not smart. But haven't you said things that were not all the smart? This author is realistic. Her characters are human. We can relate to them. The plot is honest, never contrieved. The detective certainly sees our heroine is a beautiful woman, but he doesn't act on the attraction. To me, that's realistic. What kind of policeman would hit on a suspect? Megan has a secret and he knows it. I won't tell you what it is because that would ruin the book for you. All I can say is, you won't put The Good Neighbor down until you find out. |
