5.0 out of 5 stars This Must Be The "New" Companion To Series 1-3
I am eagerly awaiting this release. I notice that BBC Warner is the studio, so hopefully this version will be of as high technical quality as BBC Warner's release of Series 1-3. The main complaints about the previously available version (by Acorn Media) of Series 4 was that the transfer to DVD was not very good.

Glad to see the Royal Appearance is still...

3.0 out of 5 stars great actors in this series
I liked the first three series better I still like this dvd set too. Penelope Keith is hillarious.

Glad to see the Royal Appearance is still included with this new version and right now the price ($19+) is fantastic!

Update: after purchasing this set, I can happily say that the quality of the DVD transfer is on par with the release of Series 1-3. Also, the Royal Appearance episode is really a treat and a much better "ending" for the series than the somewhat bittersweet "Anniversary" episode. One of the few series I'll want to go back to and watch again and again for all time.

Now if someone would just release "The Norman Conquests" (which features Richard Briers & Penelope Keith as husband and wife and stars Tom Conti in a fantastic performance) and "Lovejoy" (in an upgraded, reasonably priced box set), my life would be complete...

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of classic BBC, May 19, 2006
By
This review is from: Good Neighbors - The Complete Series 4 (DVD)
Good Neighbors still stands head and shoulders above many classic Britcoms as the funniest and most engaging. The situations and actors are brilliant (this is arguably Penelope Keith's best role), and its filled with enough wit, double entendre, and genuine silliness to make it enjoyable over and over again. Regardless of which position you are in the rat race, you'll find this series hilarious and meaningful. Be sure to get every season - its definitely worth it! (This DVD contains series 4 and the royal performance filmed later)

5.0 out of 5 stars Does it really have to end?, July 24, 2006
This review is from: Good Neighbors - The Complete Series 4 (DVD)
I am a Good Neighbors fanatic. I've only been a fan for about a year and a half and I cannot get enough of the Good Life! I have watched the whole series strait through about 8 to 10 times and it never gets old. Just like some of the other reviewers have stated, "Everytime I watch this series I seem to catch onto something else that I haven't caught onto before, it's just that GOOD!" For some reason I am a bigger fan of the older british comedies than of the newer ones. Good Neighbors is definitely in my top two, right after As Time Goes By, with the awesome Judy Dench. I wish that I could have as interesting friends as the Leadbetters', or the Goods'. These characters are fascinating to watch during the in and outs of both their individual lives, and also of the whitty friendship between the two neighbors. Don't be put off just because this is an older brit comedy. Good Neighbors is one of the best that brit comedy has to offer. You will find yourself watching it over and over again like me. I just wish that such great shows as this one, could go on forever (or at least a little bit longer that this one did). Oh well, at least all of these terrific actors went onto play great roles in something else which we are able to also purchase on amazon, and thank goodness for that!

For people sick of the Hollywood bilge, these shows were ground-breaking in the '70's and still worth every minute of viewing today. We adore it! We watch them regularly - wishing they had never stopped production. These are nothing like some of the more "racey" British comedies such as Benny Hill or as "madcap" as Mr. Bean. They have made Anglophiles of us. Series 1 thru 3 are equally top-rate!

5.0 out of 5 stars Britain's Best, January 2, 2008
This review is from: Good Neighbors - The Complete Series 4 (DVD)
This is absolutely the best Britcom ever! It is just too bad that the show ended because we want more!! Even my kids, ages 10-15, love watching these episodes. We pull these out often and they are always a refreshing alternative to today's tv.

It is a delight to include these Series 4 shows in my DVD collection. The 45-minute Command Performance episode is presented just as it was on the BBC, documenting the Queen's arrival and a reception line with the cast members after the taping. Recommended for anyone who, like me, cannot watch enough of Penelope Keith's "Margo" or Felicity Kendal's knickers.

Even though this sitcom is 30 years old, it is still timely and just as funny. Those of us who have ever wanted to opt out of the rat race can live out our fantasy painlessly and laugh all the while. The zany juxtaposition of back-to-nature self-sufficiency and life in the middle-class London suburbs is charming. But, it wouldn't be half as funny without the pert Barbara (Felicity Kendall) and her ingenious husband Tom (Richard Briers) and their ultra-conventional best-friend next door neighbors, Margo (Penelope Keith) and Jerry (Paul Eddington) Ledbetter. I loved this comedy when it was on TV in the 70s and am delighted to now own the entire series. After having bought the third series a couple of years ago, I have been waiting anxiously for this last volume. Heck, even the Queen likes this series!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Fun..., September 4, 2007
This review is from: Good Neighbors - The Complete Series 4 (DVD)
"Good Neighbors" is one of the best Britcoms; I would highly recommend it to anybody wanting a good laugh, and it's clean! Watch for the episode titled "The Windbreak War"- the dialogue is priceless when the two sets of neighbors celebrate the renewal of their friendship with the Good's homemade "Pea-Pod burgundy." The humor is not so essentially British that it doesn't translate across the pond, as some Britcoms are. It's pretty universal. You won't regret purchasing this DVD. Cheers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great show !, August 18, 2009
This review is from: Good Neighbors - The Complete Series 4 (DVD)
I have complete series 1-4 and they are all great.

the cast of main characters have a great chemistry, the majority of the show revolves around 4 main characters
and they hold the show very well.

Definitely recommend if you like Brit TV, this is from the 70's = make sure to get series 1-3 and watch show in order!
