This translation of the Bible is written in a way that is very easy to understand. It is not merely a "re-wording" of a previous translation (such as the NKJV), but is a translation that was created to be both true to the original Greek/Hebrew/Aramaic texts and also easy to follow. It is written at approximately a 7th grade reading level--not meaning it is aimed at a younger audience (as are some translations), but that it can easily be understood by all.

I received my first GNB in the 9th grade, and even though I'm all grown up now and use primarily the NKJV for my studies, I still occasionally return to this Bible to help me get a better understanding of a text that is otherwise difficult for me. (I like to dig into ALL of the Word, not just the "easy" stuff.)

This Bible, in my opinion, would be PERFECT for one who is unfamiliar with some of the "thickness" of the NKJV language, such as someone who is new to their faith or someone who does not hold English as their first language.

I think that this is a very valuable study tool, and would honestly recommend it to anyone.

I find this to be the closest English version compared to that of the King James Bible.

This Bible is very closely written to what the King James scriptures read and it is very easy to understand, I have to buy another one because mine is falling apart....if you decide to buy this..get the hardback!

This Bible falls midway between being a literal (word-for-word) translation and one which uses the dynamic equivalent (modernizing and contextualizing a word or phrase) method. The reading level is suitable even for children and helps the message to come alive for everyone rather than being partially concealed by traditionalist/archaic wording. The typeface is very legible even in low light, but I actually miss the line drawings in other editions. The binding is paperback and there is no more-substantially bound large print edition available. This translation has the advantage of an exhaustive separate concordance being available, at least via the United Kingdom, unlike a number of other contemporary translations. I would rate this item as five except for the insubstantial binding and lack of drawings as well as some of the study helps in other editions of this translation.

I had a copy of the GNB in regular (small) print and as I grow older, I am having more difficulty in reading. This Bible is perfect. I enjoy reading it every morning. I would recommend this to anyone who has eye strain problems or don't read anymore because you don't see like you did when you were younger. Get this book and enjoy the Holy Scripture once again.

I like this Bible. I especially like the LARGE print. I like the Good News version. It's easy to read and understand.

When I study the Bible, I keep several versions within arm's reach. Difficult passages are often made easier to interpret by comparing versions.

I purchased one computer Bible program solely because it contained both the GNB and Message Bible versions.

I highly recommend this Bible.

I ordered this Bible as my sight seems to be declining. It is layed out exactly as the regular print, except it is larger in size and the bigger print - works great for me. Matter of fact, I bought a second for a family member.

I ordered this Bible direct from Amazon, not a vendor, in order to be sure I received a true large print Bible. The print is large but the Bible is definitely not leather nor even close to it and the cover was Blue, not black; in fact the cover doesn't in any way match the picture.

But since my main goal was large print for aging eyes, that it truly is.

For me the Good News is a children's paraphrase version (looks like the Bible that was used during my Sunday school days). This one doesn't include pictures, like some Good News Bibles (I really disliked their stick type figures even in Sunday school).
I came across it again in a parallel Bible, and decide to compare it to other versions such as NKJV / NLT / ESV / NCV / CEV / NASB.

Update: after doing some comparing - I would have to say that personally I found this one to be the most interpretive and least accurate. Does make one look things up in other versions to check. 1 star.
A minor but quick example, Genesis in other versions says that God placed 'angels' or 'cherubim' to guard the entrance to Eden - this one is the only one that I have found to call them just 'living creatures' (animals are living creatures, so are humans)

We hand out lots of Bibles and this is the perfect one. The translation is very easy for first time Bible readers of all ages. The reference section in the back is great. The price is also a blessing if you are handing out lots of them. This Bible is also great for seasoned Christians. It is a great reference when King James scriptures are hard to understand. WHAT A WONDERFUL BIBLE!!!! Everyone should have one!

I purchased two (2) of these as I have had difficulty in finding "Today's English Version" editions of the Good News Bible. I did not necessarily need the "LARGE PRINT" editions, but was so happy to find a copy of the "Today's English Version" edition, that I purchased two. Sadly, Amazon lists this item as a "Today's English Version" edition of the Good News Bible. The bad news: it was not a "Today's English Version" edition. The good news: Amazon made good on it and accepted the return of these two copies and issued me a full refund without any problems whatsoever.

The bible is not as advertised. The covers are more like paper covers. It is not imitation leather and the covers are flimsey. Was this intentional or innocent misrepresentation on the part of amazon?
