Classic Fattburger!!!, January 14, 2004
This review is from: Good News (Audio CD)
"Good News" is the second album from San Diego's premier Smooth Jazz band Fattburger. The album was originally released in 1987 on the now-defunct Intima Records label and has been out-of-print for over 10 years. Despite this, "Good News" is definitely worth searching out as it remains one of Fattburger's finest albums.
Many of the tracks found their way onto many popular Jazz radio stations at the time of the album's release. The title track (penned by keyboardist Carl Evans and former Yellowjackets member Ricky Lawson) as well as Steve Laury's beautiful guitar ballad "Eva" and "The Doctor" (also written by Evans) were all popular hits from the album.
Other standouts include the rocking "Fun And Games" which features some blistering guitar work from Steve Laury, the vocal pieces "Make That Dream Come True" (sung by Ella Ruth Piggee) and "Ritenhouse Square" (sung by Ed Graves) and the Latin-tinged "Mark of Zorro" which features prominent percussion work from Tom Aros.
All in all, "Good News" is a classic from this wonderful band. This definitely was Fattburger in their prime. The band continues to perform and record to this day. Guitarist Steve Laury has since been replaced by Evan Marks and original saxophonist Hollis Gentry (who left prior to "Good News") has rejoined the band unofficially.
Check out "Good News" if you can find a copy. It's good stuff.

The Best of All Fattburger Albums!, August 8, 2009
I have only listened to the CD version, but it is loaded with smooth jazz hits, including:
(1) Good News (the title track)
(2) The Whole Truth
(3) The Mark of Zorro
(4) Eva, and
(5) The Doctor.
Every tune is worthy of repeated listening.
