4.0 out of 5 stars TRIBUTE TO A GREAT SONGWRITING TRIO, November 11, 2010
This review is from: Good News: The Music and the Songs of De Sylva, Brown And Henderson (Audio CD)
This is a splendid assortment of songs by the triumvirate of deSylva, Brown and Henderson, which is set in the late twenties/early thirties, and draws in some lesser-known performances, including Phyllis Dare singing "It All Depends on You", Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrel duet on "If I had a Talking Picture of You" from the soundtrack of "Sunny Side Up", Les Allen & Al Bowlly duetting on "Never Swat a Fly" with the Blue Jays, and Gloria Swanson singing "If You Haven't Got Love". I must confess that I've never been impressed by Zelma O'Neal's verbal mauling of "The Varsity Drag", but that aside it's most enjoyable. It runs for just under an hour, which was par for the course in 1992, but is short measure by today's standards, and hence it just misses a five star rating.
