4.0 out of 5 stars A SOOTHING, SWEET BEDTIME STORY, June 24, 2004
This review is from: Good Night, Harry (Hardcover)
Talented author/illustrator Kim Lewis proffers a soothing, sweet bedtime story that may lull even the most wide awake youngsters to sleep.

Harry, the loveable plush elephant, is the focus of the tale. He's getting ready for bed with his pals Lulu and Ted. But after they clamber into bed Lulu and Ted fall fast asleep while Harry just lies there wide awake. He tries to read himself a bedtime story but that has no effect. Harry tries everything imaginable from cleaning up his room to running in place - all to no avail.

Lulu and Ted are steadfast friends, and they help Harry to find his way to dreamland.

Soft moonlit illustrations done in colored pencil and pastel add to this bedtime tale.

- Gail Cooke

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely Bedtime Story, November 6, 2004
This review is from: Good Night, Harry (Hardcover)
Harry, a toy elephant can't get to sleep. His friends, Lulu, a teddy bear, and Ted, a lamb go to sleep right away. Harry tries lots of things to get to sleep. He reads a bedtime story, hangs up his clothes, runs in place, touches his toes, and jumps up and down. Still he can not get to sleep. Then his friends help him. They all look out the window at the night sky, then snuggle up together, and finally, Harry falls fast asleep. This is a delightful bedtime story that will appeal to young children. Lewis is a skilled colored pencil artist, and offers beautiful , soft colored pencil illustrations that make use of soothing, pastel colors. Lewis' illustrations work well with the text.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good night Harry, October 16, 2004

This review is from: Good Night, Harry (Hardcover)
Pre-K.
This lovely book by Lewis Kim is about Harry, a stuffed elephant. The author has written another Harry story called `My Friend Harry'. This book can be viewed as a sequel to that title. This is about Harry when James, Harry's owner, is not around. Harry's problem is that he cannot fell asleep. When Harry has trouble sleeping, he tries everything to make himself sleepy. He reads bedtime stories, cleans up the room, runs, and even jumps. Still unable to go to sleep, he becomes worried. His friends, Lulu, the sheep and, Ted, the teddy bear help Harry out. Finally, Harry fells fast asleep.
Done with colored pencil and pastels, Kim Lewis's illustrations are soft and dreamy. Yet they are realistic enough so they lure us to touch them to see whether we can feel Harry and other friends' fluffiness. The story is a soothing and heart warming bedtime story. It encourages sleep for everyone who reads it, even for readers who are not yet sleepy. When you finish reading this book, you might want to peek at the stuffed animals in children's room to see if those toys are talking, moving around, and making themselves busy.
I would highly recommend this book to readers in preschool to kindergarten. This charming book could make toddlers happy, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cutest Bedtime Story!, October 8, 2011
This review is from: Good Night, Harry (Hardcover)
This book was recommended at our library story time, so we borrowed it. My 22 month old does not like any new book at first but when I read Goodnight Harry, he not only loved it the very first time but wanted to read it twice! And so I had to buy this book.
This is a great bedtime book. The pictures are really adorable and can captivate even the youngest readers. The expressions on Harry's face trying hard to fall asleep can crack anyone up! The story is very simple and easy for toddlers to understand. Would highly suggest this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars An important part of our goodnight routine, February 1, 2007
This review is from: Good Night, Harry (Hardcover)
I found this book and purchased it for a friend's child before I had my daughter. I fell in love with it then and when I became pregnant, bought a copy for myself. I have been reading it to my daughter since before she was born and just about every night since. It is the last book we read before she goes to sleep in her crib. We all adore it. It is a beautiful story about how friends support and comfort each other. I didn't realize what an impact it had on my daughter until I realized that she was starting to say the characters' names at around 15 months and has proceeded to join me in telling the story. She identifies all of the objects (books, animals, toys) surrounding Harry, she shhs herself when Lulu and Ted are sleeping before Harry and when Lulu and Ted are awakened, she says, "Lulu, wake up." On some nights when she is very tired, she will be asleep before the end of the book! I adore this book and will keep it forever as a treasured memory of these blessed early days and months of my beautiful daughter's infancy and toddlerhood. It is just a wonderful book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Goodnight, Harry, August 22, 2005
This review is from: Good Night, Harry (Hardcover)
This book is a beautifully illustrated children's book. I purchased it for my very young grandson,Harry, who can identify with the elephant with the same name. A yound child can look at these lovely illustrations while Mommy and Daddy read the simple story of an elephant and his two friends. It is an excellent bedtime story which, I feel, any young child would truly love.

This book is so sweet and beautifully illustrated. My 9 month old son enjoys having it read to him everynight before bed and smiles and the adorable pictures. I would love to buy any and all books by Kim Lewis! I consider this book a bedtime must! Certianly cuter than the popular Goodnight Moon.
