A beautiful picture book for our two grandaughters. We live on an inland lake in woodsy, central Maine and this gives them a realistic memory stimulator for both their lake visits and their trips to the coast.

We have a house on a lake near coastal Belfast, and this book represents all the images and the beauty of Maine. It is a nice picture book to refresh the memory of our two year old grandson. The book highlights all the "Maine" wonders, animals and adventures. We have bought this book for the children of many friends.

We were so disappointed in this book!

My daughter has two other books from this series and they follow a very predictable narrative with MANY local attractions peppered throughout - they are a joy to read! We excitedly ordered this book for her and were so bummed when it arrived.

The text is lazy - there is just no other way to describe it! It is super generic; in both the "Texas" and "New Orleans" books, specific locales are named, landmarks, attractions, etc. There are almost NONE in this book.

For example, the New Orleans books have sentences like this: "Hello friends at the New Orleans Museum of Arts Sculpture Garden! Wow! There is so much to see at the Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium!". Whereas the Maine book has one page says "Ride the river, rafter, kayakers and canoeists!" - a simple fix: "Ride the ALLAGASH river" or "Ride the SACO river". Another page says "Good day to you, children and beach" - first of all, what? Second, "Good day to you children (at) YORK beach" or “Good day to you childen (at) OLD ORCHARD beach".

This happens over and over again in this book. To the point where my husband and I actually took a pen and customized it ourselves. There are so many great Maine landmarks that could have been included but they were not. It just seems lazy.

Finally, both other books end with an illustration of children sleeping or preparing for bed looking over their city/state. The Maine book ends with a very awkwardly written sentence and an ill-fitting illustration of an unnamed coastal town.

I gave the book two stars because the illustrations are lovely, and my daughter enjoys them a lot.

This is one of the many Goodnight books my daughter loves us to read to her. Even though she has only been to a few places in Maine she loves to hear about the others and loves all the animals mentioned. This book also made her say she wanted to kayak! As with the other books in this series it is easy to make this book nice and short (just stick to the words) or extend it out by asking about what's on the pictures, do you see the birds, where's the boat, etc

This book has great artwork and is a perfect going to bed book. We live in California and are from Portland Maine and Boston. We have three of the books in this series, California, Maine and Boston and this is our favorite. Our two year old loves the images.

The book is good but doesn't mention as many if Maines landmarks as other good night state books. My children do love the illustrations. I would get the book if you want to introduce your child to other states but maybe pick a couple of other states first.

I bought this book for my 10 month old daughter and it's perfect. It's a quick read before bed and teaches her about her Daddy's home state where much of our family still lives. Since it is a board book I can allow her to hold it without worrying about the pages ripping too. We intend to buy other books from this series as well, including one on our home city.

We received two copies of this book and keep one upstairs and one downstairs. My 18 month old daughter loves this book and 'reads' it often on her own. She also chooses it to have read to her. It is a short story with attractive, colorful pictures. We also have Good Night New Hampshire which is similar.
