5.0 out of 5 stars Fun tourist or trip planning item
This is a fun little book. The reviewer who was upset that this book isn't deep literature seems to have missed the point. This isn't the next great children's book for the ages, and doesn't intend to be. It's a fun little book that shows off some of the cool things around Seattle, saying "good day" or "good evening" or "good night" to each one. Yes, it's a formula,...

1.0 out of 5 stars Bye bye, language skills.
I agree with the negative review. Of course 'Good Night, Seattle' is not supposed to be the next children's literary classic. I have 16 nieces and nephews and I would never read them a book that doesn't challenge their language skills or comprehension and neither would my brothers and sisters. Why are we constantly simplifying books and literature (no matter what age...

Yes, it's a formula, but it works, and the illustrations are great.

We received this book as a gift to our child while visiting friends there, and it was interesting to look through it and see some of the things we'd already done, or intended to do, and got some ideas for next time. If you're getting a kid excited about a trip and want to involve them in planning a bit it's not a bad way to present some of the neat things about Seattle. We'll probably pick up some of the other books in the series before our next trip.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Little Tourist Book, November 3, 2010
This review is from: Good Night Seattle (Good Night Our World series) (Board book)
My husband and I have lived in Seattle our whole lives, are proud of our culture, and are so excited to raise our kids here. We have good friends who live in Cape Cod, and our baby is due around the same time as theirs. They sent us the Good Night Cape Cod book, and we'll be sending them Good Night Seattle. It's a fun, simple way to introduce our little ones to a bit of their auntie & uncle's culture across the nation.

And I agree with Douglas regarding the negative reveiw; this isn't meant to be a literary classic. It's a sweet little toddler book. Add some Kipling or L. Frank Baum to round out your child's collection, but don't expect it from a touristy board book.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book!, December 18, 2007

This series of books is great. When I learned they had different cities I bought a bunch, including the Seattle one for my best friend's two boys. I also got them the Good Night Philadelphia book since both mom and dad grew up in the Philly area. What a great way to introduce Geography to kids!

This review actually is from my family in Tasmania who have quite a few of this series. It has been declared one of (if not THE) best of the bunch. The illustrations are appropriate & eye catching for the little ones. It's a bedtime favorite down under.

5.0 out of 5 stars A favorite, January 25, 2011
This review is from: Good Night Seattle (Good Night Our World series) (Board book)
This is one of three books we read before bedtime. Out 1 1/2 year old loves it. We learn our colors looking at the airplanes, practice shapes, and animals, all while exploring Seattle. So when we drive around town and we see the Space Needle he understands. A really great exploring the city book for kids to learn about their home.

I agree with the negative review. Of course 'Good Night, Seattle' is not supposed to be the next children's literary classic. I have 16 nieces and nephews and I would never read them a book that doesn't challenge their language skills or comprehension and neither would my brothers and sisters. Why are we constantly simplifying books and literature (no matter what age they are intended for) instead of continually challenging the ever-growing minds of children? Children learn and absorb knowledge quickly and more easily, so why not teach whilst reading about the sites in Seattle? This book falls short in imagination, grammar, vocabulary, and overall proficiency in the English language.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good night literacy..., October 14, 2008
This review is from: Good Night Seattle (Good Night Our World series) (Board book)
This book is an insult to children's literature. The inherent lack of creativity in the usage of the english language is disturbing and an insult to the growing imaginative minds that we need to encourage in our children, so that they can be successful orators as they learn and mature.
