5.0 out of 5 stars True August 3, 2011
By Jada B.
Format:MP3 Music
and it was a GREAT one! the only drawback is when she is doing something physical and you can hear it's hilarious, but you just have to imagine what it is she's doing. if you've never heard Tig, then you're in for a treat. I'd rate this a solid PG, because she doesn't curse, doesn't talk about awfully gross or crass things, but about real life (or so it seems). BUY IT. BUY IT. BUY IT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good One, Tig! January 4, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
I'm a big fan of Tig from her various appearances on the Comedy Death Ray/ Comedy Bang Bang Podcast, and her own Podcast, Professor Blastoff. Her dry yet quick witted sense of humor shines through in her act, and her stories are hilarious but not over the top. It should also be noted that there is no cursing at all on this album - not that it really matters to me, I have a foul mouth sometimes, but I give extra praise to comedians who are still hilarious without relying on bad language.
My only gripes with this album is that it's a little short, and I had already heard bits and pieces of some of the jokes from following Tig, but that's fairly typical with comedy.

GOOD ONE TIG.

Tig Notaro has been around for at least ten years, originally touring the nightclub circuit using her first name only. More recently, Ms. Notaro has become a frequent guest on the late-night circuit, particularly Conan O'Brien and has a largely clean act with material that falls somewhere between the observational humor of Seinfeld and the deadpan delivery of Stephen Wright, without necessarily owing to either of those two comedians. If you are a Gen X slacker who likes absurd wit served with a veneer of hipster dry, then this would be right up your alley.

Notaro's best-known bit, the "Taylor Dayne" monologue, a 12-minute piece about her frequent run-ins with a once-famous pop singer from the 80s, is on this album. That piece alone makes it worth purchasing. Still hilarious the fifth time around, calling out those who don't understand the statute of limitations of fifteen minutes. Most of the other bits are shorter, sometimes nonsensical pieces about showering babies and friends who crowd your personal space with useless banter and/or information. My personal favorite is the album's 12th track "Self Defense/Shark Attack", where she gets into a discussion with a couple of audience members about Tae Kwon Do.

The CD is bundled with a bonus DVD, "Have Tig At Your Party" an Andy Kaufmanesque sendup of informercials that will make you appreciate social satire's nth degree, or simply annoy the hell out of you, depending on your opinion of Sarah Silverman (who makes a guest appearance on the DVD). The DVD has two parts, the first being a 30-minute parody of informercials, and the second half is literally 58 minutes of Tig standing in front of a green screen, assuming the persona of a cocktail party wallflower. It's weirdly funny, and sometimes just for laughs my wife and I will put the second half on while we clean the house or have friends over for poker.

Good luck on beating cancer, Ms. Notaro! This fan is rooting for a smooth recovery for you...

Much like Todd Barry, Tig Notaro has a very dry, laid-back, almost emotionless delivery to her comedy. Read more

I like Tig. And this is good stand up. I would also suggest Live, which I would give 5 starts too.

Several people who are my artsy friends recommended this booklet. Although it wasn't quite up to the hype, it was quite funny and entertaining.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great comedy
Her stand up is 5 stars, it gets 4 stars, because it is missing her physical delivery, facial expressions the looks she gives people. One of the best Stand ups ever!
