This harness saved my dog's life!,

My 30 lb. dog has worn this harness for every car ride for the past 4 years. We have taken many 8 hour trips, and she has been comfortable and easily able to lie down when she wants. Recently, we were in a bad accident where the entire front of my vehicle was smashed in and everything that was loose was thrown around. She suffered some bruising and pain, but I can say without a doubt that having her in the harness saved my dog's life. The only bad thing I've found is that the buckles are a little difficult to open.

Stress-free Travel with your dog,
By Labrador Lover (Ridge, NY) - See all my reviews

My 5 month old lab literally hangs out of the window while I'm driving, in the driver's seat! I hated driving driving without my husband in my car so he could hold her. Her crate doesn't fit in my car, so I looked for another option. This seatbelt is perfect for her! It's so easy to use and she can still stick her head and front paws out of the window and be completely secure. Now I'm not worried about her jumping out. She can comfortably lie down too. I think this is a better option than the booster seat because this pulls the dog back by the chest, not the neck. Plus, you don't attach the leash so there is no risk of strangulation.

Won't help in an accident...,

If you're looking for a car harness that will keep your dog safe in an accident, keep looking...This harness might work to prevent your dog from bouncing around the car and possibly distracting the driver (although I'm not even confident it would hold up for that use with a big, strong dog) but I seriously doubt it would hold up even in a mild collision. The dog is held in place using a few plastic buckles/snaps which are not even very strong-looking-- I have seen stronger snaps on regular dog collars. Plastic snaps like these would not hold up to the forces created in a collision. If you want a safety harness that will protect your dog in an accident, look for one that has actually been tested/rated similar to human car safety devices.

Okay but not great,
This review is from: Good Pet Stuff Travelin' Dog Car Harness (Misc.)
I bought this harness about two months ago, and was initially excited with the performance. It seemed my dog felt safer and did much less moving around, which was a relief for the driver. Since then my opinion has changed, because as time went on and I used it more, more problems seemed to arise. Firstly, the harness seems especially dependent on your dog having pronounced shoulders. Second, the buckles seem to continually loosen over time, requiring you to constantly check for tightness. Sometimes the weave belts that make up the harness even loosen while driving, which in conjunction with the shoulder dependency result in the harness slipping down the dog's body and off the chest. Several times while driving I have noticed this despite having tightened the harness before driving away from my home. The harness would slip far enough down the dog's chest that I was actually worried that, were I to get in an accident, the harness would actually break my dog's front legs because the neck belt was down to the middle of them.Furthermore, my dog has a strong tendency to get wrapped up in the harness. She has been able to wrap the seat belt around her neck while moving around in the back seat wearing this harness, resulting in a dangerous and uncomfortable situation for her. The passenger had to lean into the back seat and remove the harness to get her out of her predicament, which is distracting for the driver and dangerous to the passenger. When it has happened while I am alone with her in the car, I had to pull over and take off the harness to unbind her, then put it back on and readjust the tightness again, which had already been done before leaving the house. Overall, I don't like this particular product. While I was very happy with it when I first got it, my opinion has changed dramatically as I have become more experienced with it. I will be investing in a new, different brand of harness in the near future. The belts on this harness sorely need some way to lock them in place, as this has seemed to be the major malfunction of the harness.

Best Dog Harness,
This review is from: Good Pet Stuff Travelin' Dog Car Harness, Medium (Misc.)
I bought this in a smaller size when my Sheltie was a puppy and loved it. Now she is grown and I had to get a bigger size. She loves this harness as it appears to be exceptionally comfortable.

This is a great harness. The fleece is thick, the straps are sturdy, it's easy to get on and off and the dog doesn't mind keeping it on, either. This one is our second; the first one got so much use we had to get another for the other dog.

I have a chocolate Lab that weighs in at around 90 pounds and I have been using this harness since he was almost a puppy. I have to say this harness has done its work flawlessly. I can secure my dog in the back seat (as soon as he allows me too! ;-)) and I also use it to walk him with my his leash sometimes. Awesome quality construction, it still looks new and as strong as ever. Highly recommended!

Tears seatbelt,

I would not recommend this product at all unless you have a seatbelt protector between the harness and the cover. Our seatbelt was cut through from the friction of the harness with the belt early in our trip.

It took a long time to find a simple dog seatbelt that was cozy and comfortable for a medium/large size dog (55 lbs). This harness/seatbelt is perfect, affordable, comfortable and soft and securely fastens into the seatbelt! Great product!
