"Good questions" - or open-ended questions - promote students' mathematical thinking, understanding, and proficiency. By asking careful, purposeful questions, teachers create dynamic learning environments, help students make sense of math, and unravel misconceptions. This valuable book includes a wide variety of good questions for classroom use and offers teachers tips on how to create open-ended questions of their own.

5.0 out of 5 stars L.O.V.E. this book August 12, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have been a math teacher for over 20 years. I constantly purchase resource materials and continue to read and observe and learn to better my craft. Many states are moving to the Common Core Math Standards, so I've been researching books that look at math THINKING rather than just math processes. This book is absolutely terrific! I even came back and bought 3 more copies to use as door prizes at the next math workshop that I will be facilitating. No only does this book explain WHY we should use open-ended math activities but it offers MANY MANY specific examples that could be used in a wide range of ways: warm-up, THE activity, exploratory segment prior to a formal lesson, application after a formal lesson has been given, or intertwined within your total curriculum. I eagerly give this resource 5 stars. Thanks Nancy Canavan Anderson and Lainie Schuster for creating such a terrific resource. [This one was modeled after another book by the same title designed for lower grades by different authors, but I have not yet seen that one.]

Using the questions in this book really helps kids understand math concept. The kids are able to make up their own questions and resolve them after I teach them some examples. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who teach math at home or in school.

Awesome book for teachers who are looking for ways to teach students using problems. It helps teachers with the problems that are often difficult to come up with. This sure beats the the old textbook.
