The Good Sister is the Bad Novel,
By
This review is from: The Good Sister (Hardcover)
This one started out with a lot of promise, but then died a slow and painful death caused by a severe identity crisis. Is it a psychological thriller, is it a romantic thriller, is it a mystery? Who knows. The novel is written-well, from sentence to sentence, but as an organic whole, it just does not work at all. The characters are beyond wooden, the dialogue is terrible, it was painful just to finish. Stay away. This one has no redeeming qualities.

Not a Great Thriller,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Good Sister (Hardcover)
I read this book because Kelly Ripa reccommended it on her show. I have to say that this book was a little bit better than her other book club selections, but I don't think that I will read another book from her book club again. This book is based on two sisters who greatly despise each other. The two sisters help to run a satellite empire, ( that they inherited from their father) with Peter Burns, a friend of the family's. Jennifer is the sister who likes to work the more techinical part of the company, and is suppose to be the more smarter one. I have a problem with this because Jennifer is suppose to be the brains, but she is also descriped as plain and not very attractive. While Catherine her sister is suppose to be the beauty who can get any man she wants, but isn't as smart. Why does the brainy sister have to be the plain one, there are smart woman who are beautiful. Jennifer falls for a actor named Padraig O Connell. Then that's where the real problems begin. The begining of this book was so dull and dry that I had trouble reading it. I like books that are hard to put down and keep me interested from the beginning to the end, this book didn't do that for me. Also it was quite easy to figure out which sister was the bad one and which one was the good one. It was also quite easy to figure out which sister was going to make a contract on the other sister's life. This book also dragged and then there were the attempts on each sister's life that got to be absurd. The book doesn't get interesting until the last two chapters. I found the sisters to be immuture and they both got on my nerves. I didn't like a single character in this book, there was no one to root for in my opinion. I wouldn't reccommend wasting your money on this book. This book is basically a bad soap opera storyline that just drags and drags.

The Good Sister,

I bought this book because I have been reading all the books recommended by Kelly Ripa. I was very disappointed by the book. I didn't think it was an easy read. The book is broken up into parts. The first part was so technical and in so much detail that it did not keep my interest . Once the book reaches the third part (about 177 pages into the book) the story is really moving. Personally, I prefer a book that moves from the first page to the last page. I did not find it very romantic and I was actually able to figured out who done it about half way through. I have never been able to do that before.

The Good Sister is whom?,
By Lizzie "carebrite" (La Palma, CA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Good Sister (Hardcover)
This was another Kelly Ripa book club choice and I felt that this one wasn't as good as some of her previous book selections. Two sisters who have been rivals since they were young children are working together at there father's company Pegasus Satellite and they each have different roles in the company. Jennifer is the smart one who runs the technical side of the company. When she agrees to go to the Cannes Film Festival it is there that she meets Padraig the Irish movie star who sweeps her off her feet and shows her a life that she can't believe, but as life would be some things look too good to be true and when Jennifer finds her life in danger she leaves Padraig. Catherine is the prettier and more social sister who is out to take Hollywood by storm with the company. It is in Hollywood that Catherine finds her mark and starts to work with Padraig in a movie company. She is also the one who manages to screw things up in everyone's lives. This book really did not keep me guessing I had a feeling about who was the good sister and was the evil sister from about half way thru the book. I cannot say I loved this book, but I didn't hate it. It just at times moved too slowly for me.

SKIP THIS ONE!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Good Sister (Paperback)
To say this is atrocious drivel is to pay it a compliment. Skip this book and save your money AND your time. Learn from MY mistake and pass this one up.Jennifer, the biz whiz and her actress sister Catherine have been rivals their entire lives. They are a year apart and despite the lavish gifts they received since childhood, there is that underlying resentment and rivalry. Jennifer marries this revolting excuse of a man named Padraig O'Connell. He has no saving grace. Natrually Catherine gets into the mix and the marriage goes bust. That was ONE favor Catherine granted Jennifer! Towards the end of the book, there is a battle to the death (and yeah, we do have a casualty here, folks) and the lackluster ending does nothing to enhance the book. There was not one single likable character in this atrocious book. There are no surprises, no shocks, no saving graces to be found. This book is a complete waste. I would not wish this book on anyone. This book belongs in the toilet.

Keeps you entertained from page 1,
By Cheer Mom "cheermom" (Voorhees, NJ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Good Sister (Hardcover)
From the very first page of the book, when you are introduced to a very interesting pyschopath, this book keeps your attention. Just in the first few pages you learn that one sister blinded her other sister's baby doll so that her own doll would be the prettiest; broke her sister's ankle in junior high so that one would be on the field hockey team and the other would sit out the season; and sent out horrible emails about her sister and father to the business world so that her father would get mad at her sister. The one sister also admits that she tried to help kill her other sister. And that's just by page 11! How can you not go on reading? The writing is a breeze - this is an easy book to read - better than a stale Steele! Read it just for entertainment purposes - not for any deep meaning. This is a great book to read when you are busy doing other things (like getting ready for the holidays) because it gives you a break from the real world for a while!

I am certainly glad I did not read these reviews before picking up this book at the library. I would have missed a really good read for sure. Just the right blend of mystery and romance for me. I look forward to reading another by this author.

"Thrilling Whodunit" ...,
By John Savoy "International Film Maker" (California,) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Good Sister (Hardcover)
"The Good Sister," by Diana Diamond, keeps her readers guessing until the very end in this thrilling whodunit. An exciting tale of two sisters...one, a murderous sociopath...the other, convinced that the other is trying to kill her. The characters are believable and well-developed, the dialogue moves along nicely, and the plot will have the reader screaming for more. A recommended novel....

The Good Sister,
By DevJohn01 (Somerset, NJ) - See all my reviews

I must say that I was a little disappointed with this book. `THE GOOD SISTER' has an excellent premise: two sisters Jennifer and Catherine who have, since childhood, been bitter rivals. But they are forced to work together to run a multi-billion dollar satellite company that their deceased father founded.Jennifer and Catherine play two very different roles in the company, which, with the help of hired mentor as well as mediator Peter Barnes, helps to cool down this bitter rivalry. Jennifer is the brains behind the launching and running of the satellites and Catherine is the sophisticated head of PR and in charge of bringing new clients into the company. But once superstar Padraig O'Connell shows an interest in one of the sisters and seemingly tries to worm his way into the company the rivalry begins to heat up again and soon turns deadly after an attempt is made on both sisters' lives. It is now up to Peter to solve the mystery of which sister would like to see the other one dead. The problem that I had with `THE GOOD SISTER' was that it was a bit unbelievable with so many attempts on basically everyone in the books lives and all of them coming out fairly unscathed and the back and forth between the two sisters trying to figure out exactly who is trying to kill them. Also the book was a little predictable, for me, there was no big shocker at the end. However `THE GOOD SISTER' was a very easy read and it did keep me entertained for a couple of days. 3 stars.

Not all that Thrilling,
By
This review is from: The Good Sister (Paperback)
I must admit, I have become a fan of Diana Diamond and I was looking forward to this novel. Unfortunately it was definitely not her best work. There was no real twist. It was pretty obvious who the bad sister really was. I kept hoping for some dynamic twist, but I was sorely disappointed.besides that issue, I found myself slightly irritated with the characters. Some of the dialogue seemed downright silly and seemed to serve as filler. Like many other reviewers I found myself disliking most if not all of the characters. They were weak to say the least and to borrow a word from another reviewer, they were wooden. If you just want a quick read to kill time, then grab this book. If you are looking for a more involved thriller, look elsewhere. |
