Teaches the character forming age that faithful warning, wise counsel, and sympathetic admonition are particularly valuable. Spurgeon aims to lead them to Christ and to encourage and stimulate them in their aspirations after nobility.

I love this book! I am now reading it for my second time, and I very rarely read a book for a second time! I read quite a bit, and have read tons of books, but I have to say that this definitely makes my "top ten" list! C. H. Spurgeon did a masterful job of speaking right to the heart of young people in this book; challenging them and even pleading with them to seek the Lord early...we won't all live until the sunset years of life, and the risk to wait is to great! But also to those who have already been walking with the Lord for some time as a young person, this book was extremely encouraging and challenging at the same time to me. He speaks of the necessity of your faith being a public proclamation as well as a personal dedication in private. We're not to try to hide our faith! But if we are truly in the service of the Lord, then we should be serving Him! C. H. Spurgeon's tender admonition to young people, along with his unique ability to wield God's word in such a way as to transmit a burning desire to serve the Lord in every area of our lives, makes this book a rare jewel! I could not sit down to read this book for very long before simply being drawn to the throne of grace once again; truly, we have an amazing God! And any book that draws us closer to our Father in such a way as to teach us to lean on Him more, trust Him more, and want to serve Him better, as well as extracting from us the praise due Him, is a book worth reading! May the God of all grace continue to use this book in the lives of those who read it, especially young people like myself, to tie their heartstrings to His.
