Good Tidings 23-Foot Indoor/Outdoor Holiday Christmas Light Set with 70 Multi-Colored LED

In an effort to move from traditional holiday lights to LEDs, we purchased 5 strands of these lights about 3 weeks ago and have had them on every night since. We had no problems with them - everything worked perfectly out of the box. There were no flickering bulbs, as reported by an earlier user, though as with most LEDs you can occasionally get an odd optical effect of flickering in your peripheral vision that disappears if you look at them directly. For LEDs, the strands are a good length - we have a medium sized house and this was more than enough to cover the whole roof line. The colors are warm and vibrant, with a rich jewel-like look to them. We think they are plenty bright (not "dim" as reported earlier), though in a direct comparison they are not as bright as (for example) our neighbor's large C9 traditional lights. Overall, we are very pleased with this product, would buy them again, and think they are an excellent value for money compared to some of the much shorter LED lights we bought this year. If you are looking for multi-colored LEDs and don't want to spend a fortune, we think they are a good bet.

I bought this product for outdoor use around my upstairs window, facing the street. My neighbors have been adding more lights the past few Christmas holidays and I felt I should make my contribution. I'll try to make my description a technical one, to give the best overall view of the product.

The lights are about average in brightness and come in four colors: red, amber, green, and blue. The bulb portion is roughly cone-shaped and about one inch long. The bulbs are textured to produce variation in brightness depending on the viewing angle, a kind of glittering effect. Each bulb is an LED, which are polarized. This means the connections have both a positive and negative terminal. If reversed, the bulb won't work. For this reason, the sockets for the bulbs are "key-shaped" so that the bulbs will only easily insert in the correct orientation. I received two spare bulbs, red and amber.
One or two reviewers commented on dead strings. I suspect a forcibly reversed bulb might be involved. Not wanting to damage my string, I am reluctant to test this theory.

Each bulb is spaced at about four inch intervals and connected to it's neighbors by four green wires; a bundle about the diameter of a pencil. As a result, the string is fairly stiff and heavy. The coiling forces cause the string to twist slightly so that the bulbs tend to face alternating directions. Picture a zig-zag stitch. The coiling forces tend to frustrate any attempt to point the lights in a specific direction. For the use of decorating a tree or outside window this causes no problems since the light is well dispersed. In conclusion, I will simply say that the lights worked perfectly for me and looked quite pretty.

I just hung these a few days ago, so I can't attest to their durability or value, which will be determined by how long they last. But one bulb is already flickering. Sometimes it flickers and sometimes not. It isn't really noticeable unless you watch it, but just knowing that it's there annoys me. Will it die prematurely? Only time will tell.

Two replacement bulbs are included, but the instructions say you should replace a bulb only with one of the same color; the flickering bulb is green, while the extra bulbs are red and yellow. Considering that I paid $19 for these I think no bulb should flicker.

The strand is somewhat heavy, so plan accordingly when hanging.

These lights claim to prevent total string failure if a single bulb goes out. This is absolutely false. While they do come with 2 replacement fuses, there are no replacement bulbs and because they are LED, your traditional string light bulbs can't replace them. It all sounds like a minor inconvenience but my tree is now fully decorated and taking off a string of lights or even just adding a new string of lights isn't possible without taking off a majority of the ornaments.

I will be returning these strings but their 3 year warranty doesn't mean much when I have to purchase more lights, wait for them to arrive, dismantle my tree, and start all over again.

If you do buy these lights, buy an extra string so you have replacement bulbs and invest in a tree light defective bulb detector. You will need them.

Believe it or not, I couldn't find these locally. The stores don't stock many of them and they sell out quickly. After visiting three stores to no avail I ordered these. They came in about a week, I plugged them in, and they all worked. No problems. They looked better on the tree than the old miniature lights, they don't get hot, and they use less electricity.

LED lights are great - last year we had them on our tree and everyone commented on them. They do not throw the light as regular lights do but they are bright. They really looked nice with twinkling white lights.

My family is very pleased with the LED colored lights (Good Tidings set with 70 multi-colored Lights. Very attractive and lower electricity usage. Would suggest their use to all my friends and family.

We have replaced all our old C-9 outdoor tree lights with these lights over the space of 2 years for economic reasons. We had always liked the look of the old fashioned big multi-colored lights outside. We have one large tree we light and these lights, while small C-5 bulbs, have done the trick. They make a nice display and we're waiting to see our electric bill to calculate a savings. For looks, we recommend. Cons: it does take many more strings to make an impact but the effect is good once you get a good number of lights.

These have been on for a couple of weeks now with out any burnt out lights..Knock-on-Wood. Last years Commercial Garbage Brand was a big mistake. Paid Big Bucks For Them as well as shipping them & they were junk.

I needed more strings than I ordered, but the local True Value Store had them as well for 5 bucks more a string...Oh well...Had to have them.

So in closing I would give these a 3.5 Stars out of 5. Since some of the plastic colored lenses come off pretty easy. Lost a few due to our high winds, But they kept burning.

Needless to say. I would buy them again with Free Shipping Only.

I bought these for a sci fi convention room party in September. Really bright lights and a good size. I will probably buy more, because as long as the strand was, It wasn't long enough to circle a medium sized hotel room. Two more would do it. Couldn't beat the price!
