Book Description

Black Friday - the official opening of the Holiday Shopping Season and Patrice Marcum is stuck in the middle of her local superstore with a crying infant, a near hysterical desire to just abandon the diapers and milk she desperately needs, and the snowstorm of the century dumping a half-foot of snow on the parking lot outside. She needs a miracle.
The little old lady seemed sweet, but there was no way Patrice was going to leave three-month old Jeremy with a stranger. She looked outside at the snow-covered parking lot and saw yet another distressed shopper’s cart topple over in the drifts. The old lady sensed her distress and volunteered to call a store employee to help watch over Jeremy while Patrice got her car. The older gentleman, wearing a store badge with the name “Ron,” seemed too good to be true. What could be safer?
Less than five minutes later, after brushing the snow off the van and driving across the crowded and snow-packed parking lot, Patrice pulls up in front of the store. Jeremy is not there. Pushing back panic, she rushes into the store and looks around. Jeremy is not inside either. She pushes through the line at Customer Service, the associate calls Ron on the intercom, and issues a Code Adam. When Ron appears and he’s only seventeen years old, Patrice realizes the worst. “Oh God! They’ve taken my baby!”
Mary O’Reilly, Private Investigator, is decorating her office for the holiday season when the newly installed bell over her door jingles. She looks over to see a six year-old boy standing next to her desk. His name is Joey Marcum and he wants to hire Mary to find his baby brother
Mary nodded. “Okay, Joey, but I’ll want to work with the police on this one. Do you have any problems with that?”
Joey paused. “No, I guess you can talk to them.”
“That’ll be helpful.”
“But you can’t tell my mom you’re working for me,” he said, “Promise?”
“Yes, I promise.”
Joey shrugged. “I don’t think she’d understand, seeing that I’m dead, you know.”

5.0 out of 5 stars Great New Series December 18, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I actually read this one first and so enjoyed it that I went back and read her 1st Mary O'Reilly book Loose Ends. I really like the characters, the way they interact - the small town (Mayberry) type humor. I found Terri Reid's books to be a clean read which I really appreciate not have to skip words or pages of inappropriate and unnecessary interactions. She does a great job of developing Mary's romance and I like how the Police Chief is experiencing "Mary's World". I'm really looking forward to the next installment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, Charming, Heartwarming! December 3, 2010
By TJ
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book was still on my mind days after I read it. I really hope there will be more to come, since I am now completely addicted to these characters. Bradley is charming, sexy and sweet. Mary is a strong woman who takes her gift and puts it to good use rather than dwell on the negative aspects of it. Good Tidings hits all the right spots; laughter, suspense, a little teardrop now and then and a sweet romance in the making. Once I read Loose Ends I just had to see what would happen next and now that I've read Good Tidings I find myself craving more. Great book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Paranormal mystery December 6, 2010
By DJT
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I picked this up because of the price. Had not heard of the author before. Now looking for her other works based on this novel. I really liked the characters and the plot. I hope she will pursue this series beyond the two books available here. I hope she stays with the ghost hunting theme and doesn't turn to vampires. This book is worth more money than it can currently be bought for and when she puts out more in the series with a higher cost - I will pay it. I really liked this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars What Happened? January 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Loved the first book. Actually laughed out loud and couldn't put the book down until it was finished. This one? Not so much. I was bored to death as most of the book was taken up with the "couple" having (or denying) some kind of a boring romantic interlude. After the first book, this one just did not meet expectations. Still...I enjoyed the first one so much, that despite my disappointment with this one, I still ordered the third one. Big mistake. It read like a children's "lesson" book. Ok, it had valid points, but I bought a ghost story to be entertained...not to be preached to about the injustices of abuse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Second Book January 8, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Good Tidings is set in the Christmas Season and it manages to be heartwarming without any of the over the top sentimentality that can sometimes plague books set at this time of year.

Mary O'Reily is a strong and likable female character who has decided to use her unusual ability to see ghosts to resolve the the things that keep them from moving on, and to solve other cases before there is a murder victim. Her admirable compassion puts her into dangerous situations and tests her abilities as a former cop and present private investigator.

Once again Ms. Reid successfully creates a world where I cared about what happened to the various characters and equally enjoyed all the twists and turns in the plot. Definitely wish Joey will show up in future books along with Stanley and Rosie. Bradley is a romantic figure with chemistry, personality, and integrity. I liked that the romance was understated and that their relationship has advanced even more. Given the ending of the book, I am anxious to read book 3 and hope that it will come soon!

More About the Author

Terri Reid has been telling ghosts stories since she was a toddler. Her mother tells of a time when two-year old Terri would sit in her highchair, look past her mother into the dark back porch and say, "Look. Man." When her mother would turn in horror, Terri would laugh delightedly.
Terri lives in the same area of the United States as her Mary O'Reilly character, Northwest Illinois. She lives on five acres of rolling land in a 100 year-old farmhouse, with her husband, children, dogs, cats and several dozen chickens (well, the chickens live in the barn.)
Her background is in marketing and public relations, but she has always enjoyed telling stories. For a while, she worked as a freelance journalist for the local paper and wrote the Halloween feature for many years, collecting as many local ghost stories as she could. She gave her collection of local ghost stories to the local historical society to use as a fundraiser, they are now in their third printing.
