I bought 4 of these last year and have used them all year. I added 5 more this year so all windows have them. It is great that they come on at dusk and off at dawn. I get about 2 months running on the 2 C batteries (non-alk). The person who said she got them at Target and they are dim is mistaken. These are not the same ones. I too saw the Target ones and they look like this but are junk. These have a 2 year warranty...what has that these days? My LCD HDTV only has 1 year parts and 90 days labor, it cost a lot more than this candle. Give these a try you will not be disappointed. They look like real fire. They are not white lights..they are the true yellow/orange of a flame.
Update: on 3rd year still just as good as new.

Not exactly....,
By Sylly "Sam" (Long Island, NY) - See all my reviews Other than that, I like the fact they are auto on and auto off. The flicker option is cool too, although I currently have them set to steady.

I love having very simple holiday decorations that are also very meaningful. One of the most powerful images to me is of a home nestled in the thick snows of winter, with candles in each window to help guide a lonely traveler in to his place of rest. This is a tradition that dates back thousands of years and is just as touching in modern times.
The Good Tidings LED candles with sensors are brilliant for many reasons. First, they use LED lights which means they are NOT hot to the touch, they are safely cool. They also burn for weeks and weeks without burning out. I love LED lights as being amazingly energy efficient. They run on batteries meaning there are no dangerous cables to trip on or to catch fire. They safely sit on your windowsill, providing that soft candle-like glow, doing their job for travelers and people who drive by the house, all in perfect safety. I love the color of the flame. It is a natural golden orange color. A few people have said they would prefer a pure-white flame. I'm not sure what types of candles people are burning in their homes to get white flames - that would scare me! We have a fireplace here and the fireplace's fire is orange. That is the color of fire :) I find that orange golden glow to be exactly natural looking and again it connects me with the thousands of years where people did have wax candles in their windows to help their loved ones return home safely. Finally, the sensor aspect of these candles is simply brilliant. I put them into my windows and that's it. They turn on at dusk, they turn off at dawn. I leave the house in the daytime, and when I come home at night those candles are all lit, guiding me home, welcoming me. It is a wonderful feeling. Highly recommended!

I love these window candles. I got 2 for me and then when I saw how well they worked and how nice they look, I ordered some for gifts. As far as what some people mentioned about the color of the "flame," I believe the warm tone is more realistic looking than if the light were to be white. It's supposed to have an orange look if it's supposed to be a candle flame because it's supposed to look like fire and not a light bulb. I think they are perfect. They look nice in the day and flicker prettily all night long. They are definitely as advertised.

I purchased 4 and all work perfectly. In my opinion the color is golden, not orange, and satisfactorily replicates natural warm candle light as well as one can expect, I think. UPDATE comment: The color does look orange if they are placed near CLEAR Christmas lights, however.
My candles are placed in windows with significant shade (two are in a window inset deep in a 8 ft. covered porch), and yet all faithfully turn on and off as the light outdoors darkens/lightens in their respective locations. The candles even continue to work when the exterior porch lights are on. They are slim enough to fit on my window sills with ample room left over, yet weighted enough to avoid tipping over by my dog. I was a little apprehensive about whether the antique color would look cheap, but actually I am pleased with the appearance; yes, they do look like plastic even from several feet away, but due to the detail and color tone, I think they are still attractive. I was also concerned the flickering would be too weak or look artificial, but it is actually just right, quite nice. My only complaint, and the reason I left off one star, is that they are packaged in blister packaging which I am becoming increasingly less tolerant of, and which leaves me with nothing usable (recyclable) to repackage the candles for storage when the holidays are over. UPDATE January 22: Since writing the above review, I ordered two more in "Pewter" for my kitchen. The sensor on one of these doesn't work very well; sometimes it doesn't come on automatically at night, but then the next night it will, with no intervention at all. The other one which sits right beside it (and thus gets the same light) turns on faithfully every night just like the other 4. Also, I've noted it is now well into January and the original 4 are still going strong every night on the same batteries. UPDATE November 2, 2009: All Antique candles are working flawlessly with fresh C batteries. Again, the same Pewter one is giving me problems; it only turns on each night after I manually switch it to "Always On" and then back to "Flicker". As I put fresh batteries in the candles for this year, I realized just how much better made the Antique ones are than the Pewter ones. Logically, they should be the same, but they clearly aren't. Oh, and yes, I did put them up early this year in time for Halloween...they looked great!

We ordered 20 of these and every one works perfectly. My husband used to "extention cord the place" and I hated that. The flicker is realistic and the light is not bright white as expected (and respected) by others. They don't get hot and can be left on for as long as the batteries last. I suspect that will be for a long time. The fire departmenat might want to check on them if you use many of them, but isn't that the way they should look? Only thing I would like is if the "candle stick" would light up a little more. As effortless as they are though, I think they're a great buy. I'm going to order a couple more, not because I don't trust them, but because I don't trust little hands and pets not to knock them off. They easily fit on a 2" sill and the C batteries provide weight stability. I'm sure we'll be using them for many years to come.

We like this product, but please be aware, this product has an orange light/glow. So, my wife thinks its spooky and its more suited for Halloweens. So we concur with a previous review.
Pluses: Flicker or static light, working as describe, fast and painless delivery, good for Halloween. Minuses: orange light, not for christmas, Conclusion: We will save these for Halloween and shop for other candles for christmas.

Great Solution,

These candles work well and reduce the hassles of wired lights and extension cords, fit well on 2" wide window sill, and the two C cells make a nice ballast so they don't fall over easily. Lights are yellow to orange and not nearly as bright as the corded lights. The base is plastic. They don't look nearly as realistic in person as they do in the on-line photos. I have one or two where the photo cell does not seem to work as well flicker mode. But for $8 bucks each they're great. This review might get scrapped but I bought 16 of these at batteryoperatedcandles.net for about $8 each. They arrived 3-4 days after I ordered them.

I love these candles. I knew what I was looking for, to go in the windows of our house - and I went through a lot of 'duds' before I found these. They look beautiful. I set them to auto and they come on in the evening and stay on until morning.
First off - I do keep in them in the windows year-round. This is probably the third year that I've had them going nonstop (a set of 8 in the front windows), and so far the only times I've replaced them is when my toddlers have grabbed them and they met their demise. My children enjoy hurling them at walls. (They know it's wrong too.. the last one they hid in a toy box, all smashed up.) Secondly! The batteries. Get rechargable ones if you're going to use them long term. I found it terribly annoying to be running out and buying 16 batteries every month or so. When nearing about a month or slightly after, they're dimming and needing to be re-charged, I've found. Probably could go longer with UNrechargable batteries, but sticking batteries on a charger was more convenient and cost-effective for me. And as far as the color - it is a light yellowish or golden, not white. From someone who tried a few of the other cheaper ones, I can tell you these ones are more durable and suited to be used long term. And they look GREAT from outside the house. Hope this helps.

I think this is an excellent product and do not mind the orange glow (which looks more natural when set to flicker mode than constant on).
Good Tidings/Carlon customer service is excellent. After a few days the flicker option stopped working, but the candles still lit when turned to constant on. I called customer service and without any hassle they said my bulbs were going bad and that they would send out replacements for my 2 units that were affected. They do have a 2 year replacement warranty. I'm disappointed that the bulbs are not replaceable because that will make these a more expensive option in the long-run since the full units will need to be replaced. And I couldn't find these in any local stores, so once Amazon stops selling them I'll need to replace all of them with a newer model. But for now I'm extremely pleased! |
