From the Author
Travelling fascinates me; I love the freedom of being on the road. There is an appeal in the unknown implied by travel, the lure of encounters we cannot yet imagine. Encounters with people in other countries have given me a lot of wonderful memories, as well as they have thought me how privileged I am. Even if I have to work hard for the money for my travelling I am still privileged in a world where a lot of people are very poor. And in this circumstance I believe I have a responsibility. Thats why I think we should be "good tourists" when we travel.
With a conviction that its possible, and even more enjoyable, to combine responsibility and pleasure, I started a few years ago to write travel guides for a better tourism. As my device says: Responsibility isnt about denying ourselves its about doing things differently. And as I wrote in the introduction: Read this book, and do what feels right for you. You cant do everything, but you can do something. If we take one step at a time, the long-term results may be great.
