4.0 out of 5 stars Billy's back
Some of the things on here are so great that it's easy to forgive those that aren't so great. "Lookin' Back, Thinkin Ahead," "Pass This Story 'Round," and "I Get Enough" are amazing songs that would have been Rockpile classics if that great group had stayed together. While not everything here is great, there's also nothing bad, making...

Ah, Billy Bremner... he of the brass knuckled, plank-spanking Telecaster which graced the various Rockpile/Dave Edmunds/Nick Lowe recordings of pub rock's glory days... That genre is faithfully resumed on this disc, but its campiness is still evident despite Bremner's great dexterity on guitar. Perhaps it's his vocal delivery, which never was quite up to par with his...

4.0 out of 5 stars Rockpile's Back, August 4, 1998

Billy Bremner was the odd-man-out in the legendary -- and short lived -- Rockpile, the Nick Lowe-Dave Edmunds supergroup of the late 1970s. After Rockpile disintegrated, Bremner released a disappointing solo effort called Bash -- so unnecessary that the LP was never released in the U.S.

Now comes "A Good Week's Work" -- so name because the CD was purportedly recorded in the course of seven days -- which rekindles the Rockpile flame. The record is filled with Rockpile-esque "Pure Pop", punctuated by Bremner's solos are very reminiscent of his "Seconds of Pleasure" work. Here's hoping ex-mates Lowe and Edmunds will hear this new CD and be inspired to revisit their old sound -- maybe even a Rockpile reunion? Please!!

Those of us who thought Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe were the heart of Rockpile should rethink our thoughts. This album is closer to Rockpile than anything Nick or Dave have done lately. It's great rock and roll and nothing else. Buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars It was worth the wait!, April 28, 1999

ROCKPILE LIVES! Billy has crafted some wonderful pop and rock tunes reminisant of Rockpile's glory days. Billy's guitar work is still sizzling and fine. This is what good pop used to be! Give a listen to "Fine set of Wheels" and "Keep this house rockin". Billy, we missed you, but this was well worth the wait!

That genre is faithfully resumed on this disc, but its campiness is still evident despite Bremner's great dexterity on guitar. Perhaps it's his vocal delivery, which never was quite up to par with his Rockpile bandmates. Still, true Rockpile aficianados can and should welcome this addition to their collection.
