5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites!, August 1, 2004

This review is from: Good Witch, Bad Witch: Sweet Spells and Dark Charms (Book & Cards) (Paperback)
This is not a tarot deck but is an oracle deck. It can be used for multi-card spreads, as laid out in the book, but I find it works best pulling a single card at a time. Each card has an image of a different type of witch and I love every one. The artwork is whimsical, colorful, and light hearted. Half the cards are supposedly Good and half are Bad but none are truely scary or creepy. For example there's a Green Witch and Brown Witch, witches for each wind direction and for each element. There's a Wedding Witch, Bat Witch, Grant Three Wishes Witch, Hedge Witch. I'd love to go on because even the names are great. Every one is creative and fun. Whenever I look through the deck, my mood is instantly lifted. Obviously, this isn't what I'd use for very complex, serious readings. But it's great for something like picking a card a day.

The deck comes in a nice sized box you can keep both the deck and book in. The cards are small - about 2" x 3", which I find fits perfectly with the feeling of the deck in general. The accompanying book is in full color, and while also small it is much more detailed than the usual Little White Booklet that comes with other decks. There's a section on ways to use the cards and readings. Then there's a page for each card giving a meaning and also a spell that can go with it. My only issue is that some of the meanings don't seem to have anything to do with the image on the card. The spells are more like folkcharms - I personally ignore them. Actually, I might only glance at the meanings in the book just to get another viewpoint on a reading, but mostly I just use intuition. If you are comfortable using cards in that manner, these are highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Beginner: Least I'm honest, July 7, 2003

I find this book to be very elaborate about what its means are. Gives an easy approach to reading tarot and especially for one who thinks they cannot do it; this book will help. I thought I really couldn't do any sort of tarot until I bought this book. The cards are amazing; I love the little pictures it has. And the spells in which carries with each card that helps you in your everyday situations. So I love this book I still have it and I think it's an awesome tool for a beginner.

4.0 out of 5 stars What a wonderful and inspiring deck........, October 17, 2006

I really do love this little deck. I have the other decks created by Kemp (tree Magick/Faerie Wisdom) and since I was so charmed by them I had to pick up this one also.

It seems each deck she puts out....the cards are a different size and shape, and this witch deck is no exception. They are about the size of playing cards, on good card stock. 52 cards in all....26 good witch/26 bad witch. Though the bad witches aren't really bad, just more the darker or perhaps less mature sides of ourselves and situations.

The artwork is so entrancing! It's a naive kind of storybook art, I just love this artist (emma Garner), she does the other cards in Kemp's set also. It really opens up the senses and your intution. I have got some accurate and amazing readings with these so far, I plan on working with them for quite awhile and really getting in tune with their energies and depth. Some may think or say that these cards can't be for deeper or more complex readings, but I disagree. The depth is there. Almost every witch card has a host of other meanings not in the description. Say the East, West, North, South witch cards. The symbolism and meanings of just those directions are immense.

I gave it 4 stars because unlike her other 2 decks the descriptions and meanings given for each card are lacking, some don't give good meanings at all...most have great ones...just some are lacking. In her other decks the descriptions are more profound and give you a better jumping off point for your intuition. Of course this was her first deck though.

Still though I highly recommend these cards, the artwork, imagery and power of these little cards are undeniable. My favourite at the moment are the Ditch Witch, the Broomstick Witch, the West Witch,Forest Witch, the Green Witch and the Secret Witch (I really love that one!)
