5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent First Album!!, April 2, 2007

The first track off The Alternate Routes' album "Good and Reckless and True" may be called "Ordinary" but this album is anything but. It is strong from start to finish, with a good balance of beat-driven, rock-y songs and other softer, smoother ones. It would not surprise me to hear most any of these songs start to make appearances on those popular TV shows that are famous for making small artists household names - Gray's Anatomy, Scrubs, Laguna Beach. It would be well deserved for this album and band to get some attention in this way. For those who need a comparison to well-known bands I'd say The Alternate Routes are very similar to Switchfoot and The Fray; they are a less quirky Death Cab, David Gray with a beat, Foo Fighters with a little less edge and Guster with less pop and bongos. However, they are above all their own band, and a very talented one at that. I definitely recommend buying this album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good and Recommended and New - The Alternate Routes' new CD, April 2, 2007

This is a fantastic new album. I think The Alternate Routes combine a little of an alternative, pop-style melody and lyrics that I like about Toad the Wet Sprocket while offering the same guitar-driven sound of Aqua Lung. It's hard to pick a favorite tune because I like every song on this CD, but the lead track, "Ordinary," "Time Is A Runaway," and "Please Don't Let It Be" stand out to me as incredibly good. Good and Reckless and True is music with a great beat, great accoustic and electric guitar work against excellent lyrics. I highly recommend it.

How lucky was I to happen across The Alternate Routes myspace page and hear "Time Is A Runaway"? Very lucky indeed; their debut album is 100% gold. This band has a fresh sound, and surely has great things in store.. I can't wait for the tour now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, December 19, 2007

Similar to other reviewers, my first listen was a live show. Saw them open for Glen Tilbrook at Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ. Went with a bunch of friends, and we all loved them. Also saw them open for Everclear in NYC. I boought the CD at Maxwell's, and this is probably my #1 played CD of the year. "Ordinary" is a fantastic song - ranks way up there with my all time favorites. If you like great songwriting, great singing, melodic harmony, and guitar-driven rock-n-roll, I highly highly highly recommend this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my top albums, October 7, 2007
This review is from: Good & Reckless & True (Audio CD)
We saw them live the first time I heard them and I was blown away, and then I bought the cd and I fell in love. They are some of the true songwriters left around today. You can feel what they are singing about, if you buy this you will not regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, June 4, 2007

Had not heard of them until I saw them play locally with one of my favorite artists a couple years ago. As soon as they began playing, my feet were tapping along. I soon realized my friends were also tapping with the music, yet none of us had heard the songs before. I bought the CD that night and listen to it all the time (I have the original print of this CD). I love all of the songs but my favorite is "Endless Conversations." If you have not seen them live, you should--they're even better than on the disc, which doesn't seem possible. I saw them a second time when they opened for O.A.R. which was awesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Musical Doctorate......, April 4, 2007

This new CD is outstanding...It was recommeded to me because I'm a lifelong fan of Paul Kelley out of Australia: but, these two groups are not similar other than both being incredibly talented musician/singer/songwriters. I do, however, hear waves of ZZ Top, and the John Butler Trio floating in the breeze and hanging in the notes..... Excellent rock and roll, fabulous instrumental mantras and beautiful harmonies drifting in the slower romantic songs..... Truly, a well rounded festival of talent...Don't miss this CD folks, they don't come this good, too often.....My regards to the Band. GOOD SHOW !!!!! Cheers, Kiwi

The debut album from the Alternate Routes is amazing ! Some of the tunes are destined to be classics , it's difficult to pick just one but "Ordinary" is a beautiful song . Tim Warren is a great singer and Eric Donnelly's guitar is melodic and inventive throughout.
The buzz is building for the Alternate Routes so if you are considering this CD, don't hesitate. It will soon become one of your favorites !

I don't know much about these guys, but I like their sound and they know how to write songs. A very enjoyable CD that I listen to over and over.
