"Sonic Boom" is a decent album but definitely not their best. All the songs have a great hook and a good vibe to them. So right there, it's good. But there is no one song that really stands out and makes you immediately go "Wow! This one goes on a compilation!" After several listening, you may find that "Say Yeah" and "All For The Glory" are the two songs that will live on but it's up to the people cause like i said, the whole material is relatively good. But there is no "Heaven's On Fire" or "Lick It Up" or "Domino", no songs that are unanimous.
The package comes with a live DVD (about six songs - old ones) shot in Buenos Aires and a compilation CD of newly re-cut hits. Great for collectors but not the best versions for the new fan. Especially "I Was Made For Loving You" that sounds even cheezier than the original 1979 version.
Anyhow, this is a good CD and i doubt that the fans will be disappointed.
Question: Why didn't they get Desmond Child for some of the songs? He's the one who wrote some of their greatest hits. Obviously, Paul Stanley likes him. On his solo albums, he's there for a couple of songs - his best ones.
