Now this is an air hose! It's overkill for everyday applications, but the quality is great. I bought one of these five years ago, and I use it to connect the compressor (in the back of the garage) to my filter and regulator (in the front of the garage) - I didn't want to bother with running pipe for such a short distance. But aside from specialty applications where you absolutely have to minimize pressure drop, this hose is more than you'll need. If, for whatever reason, you DO need a 1/2" hose, then you'll be happy with this one. Otherwise, buy the yellow 3/8" model - that's a great hose, too.

As the previous review stated, this hose is overkill for everyday applications, such as connecting air nailers, sanders and such to the source. I use this hose to move large volumes of air from my compressor to my regulator on the jobsite to minimize pressure drop and supply the maximum amount of air to the multiple tools connected to the regulator. That being said, if you are only going to attach tools directly to a compressor, buy the 3/8" which is lighter weight, easier to manuver and less costly. Given the size, the hose is slightly heavy to attach to a framing nailer and a little cumbersome to wrap up at the end of the day.

UPDATE - JULY 2010: Hose is still working great. No leaks. Now my oldest hose by far and used frequently.

Great hose as reviewed by others.
It has 3/8" threads which is not mentioned.
I thought it would have 1/2 inch threads but
still fine for my usage.

This 50' hose is perfect for my purposes, and was priced well below what local retailers were asking. I was advised to stay away from "no-name" brands, and this hose carries the GoodYear name at a great price.

As other reviewers have already commented, this hose does have 3/8" MPT Fittings. I saw where at least one other reviewer commented that the 3/8" pipe fitting was a negative because it restricts air flow, but I don't know how this statement is accurate. The most common quick connect fitting for 1/2" hose is 1/2", and if you measure the interior diameter of the male end of a 1/2" quick connect fitting, you'll find that it's smaller than the interior diameter of the 3/8" male pipe thread fittings that are installed on this hose. Meaning that a 1/2" quick connect would restrict air flow but certainly not the larger MPT fitting. Either way, this hose is still overkill for most applications. I have two 50' sections of this hose joined together with a crimped/banded male-male fitting, and it still easily powers the Chicago Pneumatic CP7976 1-Inch Drive Super Duty Impact Wrench I use to change my truck tires.

I bought my hoses on May 31, 2009 and they have been installed in my shop, hooked up to an automatic oiler and carrying 120 - 150 psi ever since. The hoses are still as flexible and as reliable as the day I bought them and I have no reason to think they wont last at least another four or five years, or even longer.

Because I know what to expect, I always buy Goodyear hoses. Other brands may or may not be made of cheap vinyl, or plastic or other rigid materials that can crack in cold weather. Every Goodyear hose I've had has always been constructed of high quality rubber that is cut and abrasion resistant, while staying soft and flexible in all conditions. Additionally, I've never had a Goodyear hose fail at a fitting connection like I have seen so many other hoses do.

I should have read the reviews, it would have saved me a lot of trouble. I didnt know that the ends are 3/8 and not 1/2" I ordered all of my fittings for that size and now I cant use them. my mistake but it should have something in description.

Can't beat Goodyear rubber hose for air or water use. Superior to no-name import rubber hoses which can have a strong petroleum smell, this hose is Goodyear "Horizon" synthetic rubber. Rubber is superior to PVC for cold weather, below 50 degrees F PVC can get very stiff, while rubber is supple and lays flat. Polyurethane hose is another good option, much lighter than rubber, and good in cold weather, but rubber has even less shape memory, so I don't mind the extra weight, urethane hose is very expensive also. Working up a ladder with the weight of the hose hanging down then I'd want urethane. But both rubber and polyurethane are far better than PVC hose for any purpose though. Also this hose has 3/8" NPT threaded ends, not 1/2", description really should say that in case you have 1/2" fittings. Cheers!

Goodyear makes the best air hoses, period.

Come to think of it, they make the best garden hoses and hot-water hoses as well. There isn't even a close runner-up.

What's more is that their prices are comparable to the chinese junk on the shelf right next to them.

Made in the USA, and it shows. Don't take my word for it. Drag yourself down to the nearest hardware store where you can pick it up and look at it for yourself. Compare the crisp, defined, machined threads on the fittings to everything else on the shelf. Check out the ferrules, feel the rubber, bend it around a bit. Seriously.

If that's not enough to convince you, what's really going to impress you is when you tie it in to whatever application you're working with and run a medium through it. Try it with a garden hose so you can actually see what I'm talking about. The water comes out of the end like a solid piece of glass and stays that way until it hits the ground. That's perfect delivery of perfect flow. Goodyear's air hoses function with the same efficiency.

My praise, which is mostly reserved for God, is not given lightly. I almost hesitate to give it now because I don't want it to go to their heads and have them jack up the price on their products or try to get fancy and change the winning recipe which brought me to this conclusion, but darn it, they deserve a pat on the back for product excellence reminiscent of a time, not too long ago, when quality prevailed.
