5.0 out of 5 stars The beginning of a revolution, February 25, 2002

This review is from: Goodbye America!: Globalisation, Debt and the Dollar Empire (Paperback)
I believe in the next decade or two we will see the downfall of the absurdly corrupted forces of the Washington Concensus / Bretton-Woods institutions (IMF/WB/WTO). Based on the mumbo-jumbo terminology you hear on your daily news reports, you may think economists and politicians have A FAINT CLUE about the most basic facts concerning things like international trade, or the nature of money. This book will convince you otherwise, will change the way you see your surroundings when you walk down the street, make your daily newscast sound like your are living an Orwellian nightmare,...
This is an entirely common-sense, fully rational account of what is befalling our planet, poorest inhabitants first, but ultimately all. Of course, there are many things going wrong, and a number of causes. The claim is that, astonishingly, something as simple as the misunderstood nature of money and international trade may well be fundamental to them all -- if you think anything's wrong with anything in the world, you need to hear this story!

This book follows up on Rowbotham's "Grip of Death" and focuses on the 3rd world debt component of the story. The prose is better than "Grip of Death", and the book shorter. I might read this first.

PLEASE get your library to buy copies of this book, and start reading a bit of it. This is relatively easy reading that may change your life significantly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incisive and penetrating, August 9, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Goodbye America!: Globalisation, Debt and the Dollar Empire (Paperback)
The injustice of Third World debt is exposed in this incisive and penetrating work by the brilliant author of The Grip of Death.

He warns that the Third World debt trap is an extreme case of the same debt trap that all working families face in our own economies.

You may think Third World debt is a distant problem for distant lands. Think again. This book shows that the mechanisms pushing the Third World into permanent poverty are the same as those that are deferring your retirement and pushing your children into permanent debt with no hope of escape. Like docile frogs slowly being boiled alive, we are slowly being impoverished by the major banking institutions we trust. This book shows how.

Please read this important work.
