Wonderfully dark and melodic songs,
By Boon Sheridan "boonerang" (Boston, MA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Goodbye Crooked Scar (Audio CD)
I was a little worried that all the time spent behind the drum kit would make Mark Pickerel's songs too percussive and lacking in subtlety. I was so happy to be wrong. Don't get me wrong, some of the songs on this album are thunderous (the wailing guitar lines in "Architect" are almost overpowering) but there are plenty of subtle moments as well. The music could be described as `indie rock' with flourishes of Middle Eastern and 60's psychedelic nuance. There aren't a lot of `upbeat' songs here, with titles like "When Night Lost Meaning" but it's not over-steeped in pathos. Where a lesser band and less skilled musicians would falter, the Dark Fantastic succeeds.

lacks lyrics,
This review is from: GOODBYE CROOKED SCAR [Vinyl] (Vinyl)
I already purchased this CD from iTunes, but really wanted to be able to read the song lyrics. This CD is advertised as containing lyrics, which it does but only for a couple songs. I was disappointed because now I have purchased the CD twice, and still don't have the lyrics...
