4.0 out of 5 stars Get a life! The Dixie Chicks mean no harm!
When I first bought this CD none of the songs had been on the radio yet. I don't mind "Goodbye Earl" because it reminds me of the Beatles' "Maxwell's Silver Hammer," which is a great song. I remember this sort of thing also came up with Matchbox 20's "Push." If you have read the lyrics in the cover of the CD, you will see the words:...

3.0 out of 5 stars Goodby Saddam?
I thought violence wasn't the way to solve problems? I guess it depends on the situation.

I remember this sort of thing also came up with Matchbox 20's "Push." If you have read the lyrics in the cover of the CD, you will see the words: "The Dixie Chicks do not condone murder. However, they love getting even." If the song bothers you, don't listen to it--as for me, I respect the Dixie Chicks' style!

The Chicks hit it with this song. If this song strikes a note with a person in an abusive situation, perhaps it will save their sanity!

5.0 out of 5 stars Country music that rocks!, April 30, 2000
This review is from: Goodbye Earl / Stand By Your Man (Audio CD)
"Goodbye Earl" is a great good humored, "have fun and let loose" song; the Dixie Chicks really know how to add a little kick into the country music genre and get away with it. This song symbolizes girl power and how well women work together and how they're always there for each other; kind of a good song for women because it's appreciating girl power. On their cover, "Stand By Your Man", the girls really SHINE. I have never heard country vocals so beautiful. They harmonize wonderfully.

I love the song GOODBYE EARL is says what we would all like to do to an abuser who hurts us or someone we love but are afraid to say it, Though domestic abuse is by no means a laughing matter I think it's a good release song for an abused person.

Only 2 kinds of people don't like this song.....
People that don't like country,
and people that abuse their spouses.

The song is light-hearted, funny, and Earl got what he deserved.
Since the law already proved it couldn't protect Wanda, this was an obvious case of self-defense

Here it is, the source of commotion all the wife abusers were all fired up about. In it, the woman who is being abused, along with her best friend's help, kill her soon to be ex-husband. But it's so much MORE than that. It's FUNNY, people. And I hardly think we need to ban kids from it beacuse of the "Violence" in it. It's a light-heatered alternative to actually killing your husband. Turn this on and you'll feel 100% better about whatever has been bugging you! The tune, Natalie's powerful vocals, the fun video and the humor in the song brought the Chicks into the spotlight, where they belong, once and for all.

The Dixie Chicks "Good Bye Earl" has an abusive message to the abusive women of America but it is still a good song to listen to for people with a good heart. Before the criticism starts to "FLY" please keep in mind that a MAN wrote the song "GOOD BYE EARL" As far as I am concerned the Chicks can keep on "Rockin"

This review is from: Goodbye Earl / Stand By Your Man (Audio CD)
What a funny song. I love the chorus and the part about the missing person that noboby missed at all.

People are trying to take this song off the air because they think it promotes killing! These are the same airheads who are trying to ban Harry Potter.

check out the video with Jane Krakowski, Lauren Holly and Denis Franz!
