5.0 out of 5 stars Thanks for a great book!
Dr. Kapuchinski has written an informative and very readable guide to identifying and handling people with personality problems. The book helped me understand that walking away was the only good solution to my own involvement with a PDI. I was also able to let go of the idea that the relationship failed because I didn't "try hard enough." The book's format covers personal...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the best book on PDIs
This book reviews 5 PDIs and gives examples of behaviors one could expect from a person with each type of personality disorder. The book is extremely repetitive without providing new information and the vignettes are over the top and simplistic. Given that most of the people we interact with who have personality disorders and/or tendencies are much less obvious in their...

Dr. Kapuchinski has written an informative and very readable guide to identifying and handling people with personality problems. The book helped me understand that walking away was the only good solution to my own involvement with a PDI. I was also able to let go of the idea that the relationship failed because I didn't "try hard enough." The book's format covers personal and professional relationships with practical examples of how to handle problems, what you can and cannot expect from a PDI and how to keep your sanity. It was educational but also used humor which made the book easier to read than other self help books I've read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the best book on PDIs, April 9, 2009
This review is from: Say Goodbye to Your PDI (Personality Disordered Individuals): Recognize People Who Make You Miserable and Eliminate Them from Your Life - for Good! (Paperback)
This book reviews 5 PDIs and gives examples of behaviors one could expect from a person with each type of personality disorder. The book is extremely repetitive without providing new information and the vignettes are over the top and simplistic. Given that most of the people we interact with who have personality disorders and/or tendencies are much less obvious in their behavior than the examples this book provides, and hence the interactions are more insidious, this book misses the mark.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth it's weight in gold! Excellent Book!, February 11, 2008
This review is from: Say Goodbye to Your PDI (Personality Disordered Individuals): Recognize People Who Make You Miserable and Eliminate Them from Your Life - for Good! (Paperback)
I have recently finished reading this book and all I can say is WOW! The author does an excellent job of keeping things simple, and gives many examples so that you are able to identify and eliminate these people from your life. I also liked the way he took the time to explain things in a way that made sense to me personally. I am 52 now, and feel that I have been victimized by at least a dozen of these types of people during my lifetime. It seems that I always blamed myself, but now because of this book I know better. Now I know: "when in doubt keep them out!" If you have people that are making your life miserable, get this book, it offers practical solutions for eliminating them from your life.

Dr. Stan's book is enlightening! Over the years, I have encountered several PDI's (but did not know it). I have attempted to change their behavior, they have successfully manipulated situtions, and in some cases made me believe it was me that was the problem--well...NO MORE--after reading this book I can SAY GOODBYE to my PDI'S!!!! THANKS Dr. Stan!

This is the perfect stocking stuffer or buddy gift for a business holiday exchange .... I have read all the Narcissist books out there but it is wonderful to have a book that covers the 5 biggest disorders...

So many people walk away from their jobs (or are fired) and their relationships, due to personality disorders on both ends of the spectrum. To have the knowledge that personality disorders "happen" and infiltrate all realms of lifestyles, is imperative to know....Once you are a victim, you will become more savvy dealing with people who are disordered. By now, I can spot them miles away.

This book will simply save your mind and quite possibly your life.....it's not you, IT'S THEM !!

Stan, Thank You !!!! You have given the world a fabulous gift and I recommend your book to everyone who crosses my path. Let's hope that our new found intelligence will guide us through the tough times ahead...

This review is from: Say Goodbye to Your PDI (Personality Disordered Individuals): Recognize People Who Make You Miserable and Eliminate Them from Your Life - for Good! (Paperback)
The matter of personality disorders -- which are serious mental illnesses -- is treated in a glib, irresponsible manner by this therapist writing for other therapists and for lay people. In his examples he gives persons with personality disorders nicknames along the lines of "Horrid Hannah" and "Crazy Cathy" and sets out on a thorough character assassination, without once mentioning that people with personality disorders perceive things and think differently because their brains are different (as has been shown by MRI studies).

Mr. Kapuchinski is not a responsible, compassionate therapist. His advice to therapists is to terminate therapy with personality disordered persons because they are horrible, without trying to see how therapy might help a patient in need. His advice to lay people is similar: your loved one is a bad person, so throw him or her away.

Not the stuff of serious scholarship and rigorous science. I'm shocked this got published.

The book is well written and easy to understand as well as entertaining. We all have to deal with individuals with that nagging Axis II Disorder and this book takes some of the edge of that ordeal. A great way to develop insight into how to deal more effectively with that annoying boss, coworker, in-law or acquaintance.

This book has the usual description of personality disorders, but it doesn't give
practical steps for eliminating the PDI, as it says. I already know the person's diagnosis, which I discovered too late. I don't want to "cope," or deal with, or "handle" the person; I just want the person out of my life--safely. It is not safe to confront some individuals, for example, about compulsive lying and other destructive behaviors, because they can become enraged. You can't just "get rid of them," or "cut them off" without them also becoming enraged and feeling abandoned. There are plenty of books out there for people who are dating or married to PDIs, but this is not a romantic relationship for me. So, if anyone knows of a book with practical applications rather than what most of us already have experienced with these individuals, please let me know. I need an appropriate, workable exit strategy.

O.k., now I don't feel narcissistic saying "it's them, not me!" Very insightful book that gives a realistic view of the PDI and how to easily spot one in your life (or maybe more than one!). Dr. K did a great job in demonstrating the behaviors, reactions, entrapment and how to deal with these folks and keep your own sanity. A must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to understand snap-shots of each Personality Disorder, September 17, 2010

This review is from: Say Goodbye to Your PDI (Personality Disordered Individuals): Recognize People Who Make You Miserable and Eliminate Them from Your Life - for Good! (Paperback)
Great book to easily help you identify others with personality disorders and how to deal with the issues you're likely to encounter with those individuals.

Most textbooks give pretty dry descriptions of the personality disorders and can make understanding the subtle nuances of each quite complicated. This book gives easy to understand, real life descriptions of the disorders and can clear up any fuzzy areas you might be having for each one.

I found it especially helpful with Histrionic and Borderline personality disorder descriptions - it really gives you a good idea of the personalities so that you could more readily pick them out in a crowd.

The book isn't really meant for practitioners but is supposed to help laymen (regular folks) identify the personalities of difficult people in their life and how to best address the problems they (the personality disordered person) causes. However, because of it's easy to understand descriptions with examples, along with information on how to best address and deal with the issues particular to each, I believe it is a great handbook for practitioners as well. (I say this as both a licensed healthcare practitioner and doctoral clinical psychology student).

Whether you're just a regular Joe or Jane looking to identify and deal with a problem person in your life, or a healthcare or psychology practitioner seeking a better understanding around personality disorders this book is great. I recommend it to both.
