Book Description

Will Lois Barker put down roots in Green . . . or will small-town life be too tough?

The charming and uncertain journalist is delighted with her decision to keep The Green News-Item and excited about the possibility of romance with her good-looking catfish farmer/coach neighbor—and the growth of her fresh faith and friendships.

Her second year in Green has scarcely been rung in, though, before Lois is wrung out. The former owners of the paper want it back. The mayor’s dog bites her on the face. A series of fires threaten Lois. And while her friends blossom, Lois feels wilted.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Sometimes the sequel to good book leaves the reader disappointed. Not so with Goodness Gracious Green, sequel to Gone to Green. I loved it and hope there's a third book in this series. Judy Christie writes such charming characters that I was drawn into their lives. I want to visit Green and meet the mayor and Lois's other friends. If you haven't read Gone to Green, grab a copy, and while you're at it, get Goodness Gracious Green. These are a perfect summer read. Novel Journey and I give it a high recommendation."

4.0 out of 5 stars Goodness Gracious Green December 14, 2010
Format:Paperback
When I first picked up this book to read I didn't realize that it was the second in The Green Series, I had no problems jumping right into the story, because the author gives enough information that you don't feel lost. That being said I plan on going back to read the first in the series because I enjoyed the characters so much.

Lois lives in the town of Green and runs a small town newspaper, when the building catches on fire that houses the newspaper, Lois wonders if it was an accident or was it arson. When things start happening that make Lois wonder if someone is out to get her,she starts second guessing her decision to stay in town.

I loved this story. The characters seem very real, and the sense of community was great. Lois has some great although quirky offbeat friends that are there for her when she needs them. It seems like her faith is tested often, and she wonders if she is following God's direction for her life, a normal question we all often face. Lois also wonders if she will ever find love and romance, and will her neighbor Chris be the one?

The mystery holds your attention and the light romance woven in makes it a great story, smoothly written it will hold your attention to the last pages. I am anxious to read the next book in the series to see where the story between Lois and Chris will go!

Even though I was provided a copy of this book by Netgalley it in no way alters my opinion of this story.

3.0 out of 5 stars A great mystery September 4, 2010
Format:Paperback
As I live in a small southern city, I am always intrigued to learn what an author might write about my little part of the world. Will they portray all southerners to be uneducated, unshod and poor or `socially educated' (in the ways of `all things polite') or as they really are? Me? I'm highly educated, love shoes, middle class and hopefully `socially educated', too, really. LOL

Lois, the main character, hails from Ohio and moves to Louisiana to run a small town newspaper. The story begins after she's spent just enough time in the Deep South to decide to stay. Then things start happening...

I look for 3 main factors when enjoying a book. Does the story have depth or can I tell you what's coming next? Will the character's relationship with God inspire me? What's the temperature of the romance?

Goodness Gracious Green is a great story! I really had no idea what would happen next and I have to love that-keeps me glued to my seat and the book, you know? What would be next, after the fires, the vandalism? And how about that hot topic--all those Mexicans getting across our borders? How do you deal with them? It wasn't too heavy either. I don't want to read a political expose' during a romance novel. At the beginning of each chapter is a snippet from our fictional newspaper, which is a great touch, and I loved each one!

Although the characters are church going folks and talk about praying more and did pray, I don't see Lois as a character that would inspire me per se', although I shared her fears and struggles. It was a story about living out our convictions as Christians. She has to stand up for justice despite potential consequences on more than one occasion and I love that.

This was a light romance for sure and that was ok for me. I've read a few heavy titles recently and needed a light read. The `heat factor' was friendly, not even lukewarm really. The romance took a backseat to the real story, which again, was riveting.

If you're looking for a light read that keeps you riveted, Goodness Gracious Green will do just that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Goodness Gracious Green August 24, 2010

Now this was an enjoyable read. Lois is the owner of the local newspaper in Louisiana. The newspaper building catches fire was it an accident or was it on purpose by a few people Lois has made or fired lately. The community comes together in many ways and teaches us all that we can make a big difference in our lives as well as others. I so enjoyed reading this book and the characters were all wonderful and so believable. The ending is one of my favorite parts of the book. I so look forward to reading more books by this author.
