5.0 out of 5 stars Another powerful work by a great author

This is a moving and realistic story that deals with one woman's search for wholeness. Her life has been one disappointment after another until she is invited to attend Followers Of Jesus Faith Worship Center. The sermon moves her, she gives her life to Christ and then her life becomes one setback after another. Everything good in her new life seems to be...

2.0 out of 5 stars First Time I've Been Disappointed with this Author
Vanessa Davis Griggs books are usually beautifully written with characters that literally leap off the pages and become a part of your family. This book however, disappointed me greatly. I expected to be entertained, encouraged, uplifted. Instead, there seemed to be a hidden political agenda that was repulsive and cheapened the quality of her work. While I respect...

5.0 out of 5 stars Another powerful work by a great author, July 2, 2010
This review is from: Goodness and Mercy (Paperback)

This is a moving and realistic story that deals with one woman's search for wholeness. Her life has been one disappointment after another until she is invited to attend Followers Of Jesus Faith Worship Center. The sermon moves her, she gives her life to Christ and then her life becomes one setback after another. Everything good in her new life seems to be counterbalanced by another attack from the devil. Gabrielle has to decide between the temptation to go back to her old way of life and her desire to stand her ground and hold onto God's hand no matter what.

This book gives a realistic depiction of church life- the good, the bad and the ugly. Everyone who attends a church is not there for a good purpose in real life, and the same holds true in Griggs' fictional one. However, the pastor is determined to follow Jesus at all costs, and he holds fast in leading his congregation to do the same. I highly recommend all of Vanessa Davis Griggs' books.

4.0 out of 5 stars You Never Lose with Jesus, February 3, 2010

This review is from: Goodness and Mercy (Paperback)
An interesting read that explored the life of one woman's road after salvation. This book carried with it a common thread that God is with us at all times. I loved the way the author began each chapter with a scripture reminding the reader that God must be at the forefront of all that we do. And with Gabrielle, the main character, she made it plain and kept it real. No matter what the enemy threw her way, she stood her ground which is the foundation of faith. Although fictional, there is something many can learn from her life...remaining steadfast in the word at any cost. You never lose with Jesus.

May Vanessa's work be a blessing to all that read.

The first chapter will actually GRIP you. Vanessa had me sold by the first paragraph because it is so well written, so strong, and so persuasive.

The heroine Mercedes Gabrielle is very easy to relate to and empathize with, I actually missed her a bit when I finished the book.

What a great book and I highly recommend it to anyone who especially is a part of a liturgical dance ministry. Very true to life scenarios in the book and once I started reading it I did not stop ...it took me 1 1/2 days to read working a full-time job and having a litugical dance company rehearsal during the time I was reading it :). I just want a sequel so I can see the full white pickett fence ending (smile)

The picture is painted well and the story leaves you wanting more! You will be able to relate to every situation whether it is romance, church people, unconditional love and even forgiveness. Ms Vanessa used the scriptures well and you can visualize yourself in the midst of the services as if you were sitting in the pew yourself. After reading Goodness and Mercy you will be able to walk away from your past, experience forgiveness and not allow others to hold your past against you. Get this book and other books by Vanessa Davis Griggs, you will be blessed. I can not wait until Ms Vanessa's next release.
