5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for babies!
My 8 month old daughter inherited this lovely book from a friend of mine who swore by Helen Oxenbury books for both of her children. Its sturdy, colorful and features cute illustrations of a racial mix of babies playing in the build-up to bed-time. Its lovely!

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple and Sweet, October 26, 2001

If you're just about to start reading to your baby, you might want to get this book because it has all the core ingredients to captivate a baby's attention. It's pretty short (10 pages), has very simple text with huge and colorful illustrations. But, if you have long started reading to your child, this book might be a bit of a frustration. It's just too simple. Once you have engaged your child into the daily reading activity for quite sometime, you can actually hold her attention for a good 5-10 minutes. To me, make full use of that time by reading books that have a bit more text than this one.

My little boy has loved this book since it arrived and now at 20 months it's still a favorite. His eye's light up when we look at it. Definitely a keeper for toddlers

I love the illustrations. It's a very cute book. Although it's a short read, each page is enjoyable and adorable. The books are rather big so the images are easy for baby to see.

5.0 out of 5 stars Over and over and over again, November 30, 2008
By
This review is from: Say Goodnight (Board Books) (Board book)
My 16 month old LOVES this book. He's captivated by the babies on the pages and by the sing-songy rhymes. Despite the title, this isn't exactly a quiet bedtime book, but instead it gets read at all times of day at our house.

I love the sing-song verse of Helen Oxenbury. This book, as well as the other three in the series, are perfect board books for babies and young children just getting into storytime, and they make wonderful gifts, too.

Our sixteen-going-on-seventeen month old is in love with Helen Oxenbury's books. These are the ones she brings to us when she wants a quick reading fix. She knows and enjoys them, and it seems to me she even recognizes herself in the images of toddlers (even though they all seem to be boys).

3.0 out of 5 stars not what I expected, February 17, 2007
This review is from: Say Goodnight (Board Books) (Board book)
I purchased this to add to my son's sleepytime book collection. I thought it would be filled with babies sleeping, looking sleepy or getting ready for bed. WRONG. The only page ( and image) of sleepy babies is on the cover and the last page.

There is nothing sweet, charming, endearing or amusing about this book. Illustrations are nice and large. It's just dry and boring. Yes it is written for tiny ones and one cannot expect too much in such a short book written for a baby. Completely lacking in imagination, in my opinion, this book is blah. There is so much better out there. Don't waste your money.
