5.0 out of 5 stars Devastatingly, Darkly Funny
This book is a great gift for almost anyone who isn't still driving around with one of those corporate logo-like "W '04" bumper stickers (most of which are found on massive gas-guzzlers inside the big bubble that is the DC beltway).

This book is a great gift for almost anyone who isn't still driving around with one of those corporate logo-like "W '04" bumper stickers (most of which are found on massive gas-guzzlers inside the big bubble that is the DC beltway).

The love for the art and read-aloud rhythm of the original children's classic is evident, but this variation is certainly not for the kiddies. Bravely, the authors even included a swipe at Fox News, owned by Rupert Murdoch who also owns Harper-Collins Publishing, publishers of "Goodnight Moon."

Most importantly the book serves as comic relief from the endless stream of bad news over the last seven years, and--unlike many humor books or anti-Bush books--there are subtle images throughout the artwork inviting repeated readings. The rhyme of the text works so well it should be required bedtime reading for stressed Americans who need a laugh to relax before dreaming of a better future.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for anyone who has been paying attention, May 26, 2008
By
This review is from: Goodnight Bush: A Parody (Hardcover)
I just received this book as a gift, and it has prompted me to write my first review. This book is for anyone who has been paying attention during the Bush years. The placement of characters in reference to the original book is so well done, but also the small details on each page is like a "Where's Waldo" of the calamities of the administration. I laughed out loud, and at the same time sighed. It's hard to make the nightmare funny, but the authors made me laugh for just a minute and it was a welcome relief. Off to purchase copies for several friends and family members.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clever, funny and so sadly spot-on, May 28, 2008
By
This review is from: Goodnight Bush: A Parody (Hardcover)
Every time I re-read "Goodnight Bush," I find a new reason to laugh, and then sigh. It's brilliant. The late, wonderful Molly Ivins would have been first in line for it. It's a must-give title for all who'll celebrate when the lights go out on the present administration.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Devil is in the Details of the Drawings, June 30, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Goodnight Bush: A Parody (Hardcover)
The original children's book on which this was based was the one my daughter learned to read with and is still a treasured book in our house. I was a little leery of how good a parody of this could be, but found it to be a wonderful parody of both the administration and the original book.

I won't give anything away, but the devil to the book is the exquisitely done drawings that are found on each page. Every time I open the book and stare at the pictures I find something new to laugh at. My daughter (who is currently away from home) is panting at the bit to get back and read it. This is a must have for anyone but the less than 25% of the public that still supports the Bush administration.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, May 27, 2008
This review is from: Goodnight Bush: A Parody (Hardcover)
Great book. This book has the enlightening quality of inviting you to look at the events of the past 8 years through childrens' eyes. All of the horror and humor this book evokes is conjured with such naked simplicity, it's hard to imagine a more appropriate historical record for this administration. The illustrations compliment the text with potent imagery and symbolism. There's a lot of detail that may go unnoticed at first glance...look closely.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not for those unwilling to pull their head from the sand..., May 27, 2008
This review is from: Goodnight Bush: A Parody (Hardcover)
If you still believe Bush won't be remembered as one of the worst presidents in U.S. history, this book won't change your mind. But if your trust in this administration has finally been crushed under the weight of its lies, corruption, greed, and arrogance -- or if you never trusted the administration in the first place -- you'll find Goodnight Bush to be a brutally clever critique of the sins of the Decider, Big Time, Rummy, the Boy Genius, Brownie, Speedy, et. al. Be sure to pay attention to the illustrations, which are chock full of humorous detail!

This book is a lot more sophisticated than it looks. Very well done, and very entertaining. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Goodnight Bush, July 19, 2008
This review is from: Goodnight Bush: A Parody (Hardcover)
I found this book to be an extremely amusing parody of the classic that I read to my children hundreds of times. It hews closely to the original in layout, color scheme and other visual elements, as well as in the simple, rhythmic language used. But the contents are so well chosen that by the end, I was laughing for the parodic humor and simultaneously crying for the country that this administration has mistreated so mercilessly. Seeing the Constitution going up in flames in the picture in this book really got me angry over the high crimes and misdemeanors that the book exposes.
As the saying goes, if you aren't angry, then you haven't been paying attention the past 8 years.
All that said, the Bushes and the Cheneys will sleep well tonight and retire to their well-feathered nests, undisturbed by what they've done to the USA. And unfortunately, this charming little book won't change that.

Must reading for GENUINELY patriotic Americans! If you love our country, and are appalled by the abuses of the last 8 years, read this brilliant parody more than once.
Note the titles of the books on the shelf, watch as the scales of justice become more and more unbalanced, watch the profiteers --who have used the Irag war as a way to transfer billions from the American taxpayers to their pockets -- pile up their cash.
Will it be "Goodnight heirs"? Pray we wake up in time, and not sign on for 4 more years of this national nightmare.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful; A Collector's Piece, June 6, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Goodnight Bush: A Parody (Hardcover)
I never liked "Where's Waldo?" But this book is *fun fun fun* to scrutinize. (For those of you who wear reading glasses, you'll need a second pair to wear over the first. Some of the items are pretty small.) If you, too, are worn out from 8 years of outrage and shock, and are just counting the days until The End of an Error, then this is just the Rx you need to get you through.

I'm treating my copy as a collector's item. It will be proudly displayed next to the framed copy of the 4/28/08 issue of the National Examiner having the headline BUSH SECRET LOVE CHILD! NEW SCANDAL FROM HIS PAST ROCKS MARRIAGE!

There's some symmetry there.
