Editorial Reviews

Review

"Morbidly funny."  —New Yorker

"Hilarious results . . . brimming with rock references and Who aficionados will enjoy the ominous presence of Cass Elliot, who died in the exact same apartment as Moon four years earlier. Sure, creepy in real life. But perfect here."  —Huffington Post

I first saw Goodnight Keith Moon posted on a friend's Facebook page, and immediately hit the link to the online book.
I was not disappointed. I signed up to purchase a copy which I awaited with baited breath. Clever, funny and true to form, this parody is the perfect gift for any slightly twisted baby boom rocker in your life. Extra credit to any youngsters who embrace this little piece of perfection. and ick.

I keep coming back to Goodnight Keith Moon because it works over and over.

I laughed when I saw it on the surface. I enjoyed its cleverness and wit. But it kept coming back to haunt me. It was more than a laugh. It's a reminder of a feeling long ago of just starting to grow up and let go of childhood and remembering being so sad at Moon's death. I was 13 when Keith Moon died.

Maybe the best part: Keith's nature. He'd love it as much as anyone would. And probably get it more than anyone else could.

There could be no better tribute, either to Keith Moon or childhood. They are both gone forever and much missed.

I got this as a gift from someone who obviously had not read - and is a close friend who certainly did not mean to send trash! The positive reviews lead you wrong. The book is remarkably cruel. A man lost his life while trying to change. The quintessential rock star attempting to reign in his rock and roll life style for a chance to survive (hardly a joke). And, they ad his long-time friend, with whom he had a brother-like relationship; here made to be in a state of glee at Keith's passing. The shadows of Keith's life are each snide - complete with another loss, Mama Cass, witch-like shh-ing the reader, who died in the same apartment. NOT funny. I thought I'd read wrong and wrongly looked through to the tale's end. It got worse with each page.

It's been decades for this 'fan' and still I was nauseated. And they have the audacity to show a Keith Moon in his prime - not the man as he was; poisoned from years of self-abuse and clearly ill. I can not express enough how distasteful this book is. Parody? Idiocy. Aside from being just stoo-pid, the 'authors' are not even witty in there unexplainable lack of taste. Sure, people can detach and say it's a joke...but, this is one of those that has absolutely no point or actual laugh involved. It's kindling for the day's fire. DO NOT GIVE to anyone - let alone actual fans of Moon (his talents, legacy, and antics),it's an emotional speed-slap.

I found this book to be a fun riff on two subjects that are not a natural match: the mythology of Keith Moon/The Who and children's night time books. It works really well as a parody of "Good Night Moon" and mines some fun jokes about Keith Moon along the way with becoming tired. You aren't going to read this to your kids, but you can get a good laugh out for you and your friends. (At least your classic rock appreciating friends.)

This book is adorable, and it's especially a fun gift for parents who like The Who (or rock from that era.)

I got this as a gift for my son who loves to drum and who thinks that Keith Moon was one of the best drummers ever. I'm also glad that I was able to include the word "Who" into my review!
