4.0 out of 5 stars Amazon book on CD purchase, August 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Goodnight Mister Tom (Audio CD)
This poignant story that is set during WWII is extremely intense. It has graphic scenes with death and abuse and their aftermaths. However, kids will be moved by the deep bond between Mr. Tom and Willie and perhaps the story might inspire further reading and research about World War II. The reader has a British accent and a child in the U.S. inner city might not understand the dialogue. It would be best to use this CD while following along with the text.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sensitite, Compassionate and a DEFINITE MUST-READ!!, November 19, 2006
This book is very well written and, although it is a children's book, it's also well worth it for older readers too!! It handles the sensitive subjects such as war, death, abandonment and other touchy issues with compassion and dignity while also not side-stepping them as many children's books do.

I DEFINITELY recommend this book to anyone, but especially children aged between 9 and 13 years or in a classroom setting. It's an eye opener for some, but also leads to some excellent discussions and questions for the inquisitive.
