Gooey Jellyfish,

This review is from: Gooey Jellyfish (No Backbone!) (Library Binding)
Jellyfish don't have eyes or brains, yet they can still catch food and stay safe from enemies. How? Dive into the weird and watery world of these gooey sea creatures to find out! Colorful photographs and clear, age-appropriate text will engage emergent readers as they learn about these fascinating invertebrates. `Gooey Jellyfish' is part of Bearport's `No Backbone! The World of Invertebrates' series.

"Gooey Jellyfish" makes a great introduction to those beautiful, mysterious, and sometimes deadly sea creatures. The full-page photographs are beautiful, even stunning (no pun intended!). While the text covers a wide variety of subjects, from anatomy to different species, the information is provided in simple, bite-sized doses. (There was one confusing part where the text talks about Australian box jellies being the deadliest creatures, and the accompanying photograph shows feet wading in waters with a box jelly in front. Different species?)
My daughter and I enjoyed this book thoroughly. I'm sure others who want a basic introduction to jellyfish will feel the same.

This non-fiction Florida's Reading Association Children's Book for 2008-2009 is packed with information on Jellyfish! The photos are stunning, very colorful and really make this book! The book is broken up into sections: No Bones, Bell Shaped Bodies, Large and Small, Stinging Strands, Floating Traps, Gooey Meals, Harmless or Harmful, Danger Sea Wasp and Floating and Fishing. The book also includes a world of invertebrates - beain coral, sea pen, sea anemone and comb jelly. A Glossery, Index, more books on jellyfish and an online website from the publishers about this book. I learned so much from this book! Totally worth the price!
