5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious!, May 14, 2006
This review is from: The Goomba Diet: Living Large and Loving It (Hardcover)
I purchased this book on Friday as a gift. The book happened to get passed around my office. My co workers were laughing hysterically as they were all reading excerpts from the book. I have never seen anything like it. The book is very funny and would make a great gift for someone who can use a laugh. I plan on buying another copy to give to my Dad on Fathers day. 2 thumbs up.

4.0 out of 5 stars A funny diet book for those with a sense of humor, May 13, 2006

This review is from: The Goomba Diet: Living Large and Loving It (Hardcover)
This is a really funny, self-deprecating book about celebrating life, spending time with friends and family, and not taking yourself too seriously. The title is quite misleading actually. It has nothing to do with diets, weight loss tips or recipes. The diet angle is only a small part of the book and it refers more to the customs and lifestyles of a goomba, not eating habits. It really reads more like a sequel to his first book, "A Goomba's Guide to Life". If you're a fan of that book you'll enjoy this very much. Steven Schirripa's stories about his days working in Las Vegas to hanging around with cast members from "The Sopranos" are interesting and insightful. Any fan of the show will also love the personal benind the scenes photos, worth the price of the book alone. My favorite though is a photo of Steven Schirripa's mother and P. Diddy. The caption reads, "Don't ask. I have no idea." The man obviously has a colorful history and despite his rising stardom hasn't forgotten where he's from.

The book is peppered with jokes about being fat, goomba diet tips, goomba eating etiquette, and other things goomba. - many of them laugh out loud funny. I noticed in the acknowledgements that the authors thank Nick Di Paolo who happens to be one of the funniest comedians in the country. He clearly lent a humorous hand. But again it's all tongue in cheek. Anyobody who thinks this is a real diet book probably thinks "Scrubs" is about real hospitals. Buy the book and don't take it nor yourself so seriously!

I just finished reading Steve Schirripa's new book "The Goomga Diet". The book is a hilarious, insightful and interesting look at one man's experience as an Italian-American and, of course, is a must read for fans of The Sopranos.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very funny, July 2, 2006
This review is from: The Goomba Diet: Living Large and Loving It (Hardcover)
I'm sitting here in a double knit shirt , eating a mortadella and salami sandwich reconnecting with my Goomba roots after reading this. Right on the money for all the east coast Italian guys out there who grew up hanging around Goombas. You know who you are...pick this up and get real. You will immediately crave a big italian dinner, among other things.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outragously funny!, May 10, 2006
This review is from: The Goomba Diet: Living Large and Loving It (Hardcover)
I've read all of Steve's books, and this one deserves 5 stars for humor and insight into the Mysterious Order of the Goomba. Definately one of the best food plans to follow! It's more than a diet, it's a way of life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Trilogy Since "Lord of The Rings", May 15, 2006
This review is from: The Goomba Diet: Living Large and Loving It (Hardcover)
Steve Schirripa's "The Goomba Diet" does for Italian cuisine what "The Da Vinci Code" does for Catholicism -- the only difference is that once the Pope reads Schirripa's book, he's going to make Steve an official Saint. Following in the tradition of his previous literary masterpieces, ("The Goomba's Guide to Life" and "The Goomba's Guide to Love") Schirripa has accomplished the impossible by writing a book that's even funnier than his first two. Whether you're Italian or Jewish, fat or thin, heterosexual or a fanook, "The Goomba Diet" delivers a powerful message from which the world can benefit. And by "the world", I mean overweight Italian criminals indicted under the RICO Statute who enjoy Penne Arrabiata. Not only is "The Goomba Diet" superior to any book currrently on the New York Times bestseller list, but it proves why Steve Schirripa deserves to host his own late night network television talk show -- he's far more talented than Jimmy Kimmel, Carson Daly, and or that annoying Scottish guy on CBS. And if boring idiots like "Jerry R. from Montreal" like this book, then it can be enjoyed by EVERYONE.
