Book Description

Goon (Numbered) July 10, 2007
Described as "EC by way of Looney Tunes," multiple award-winning cult hit The Goon has quickly risen to the forefront of hot creator-owned titles. Now a heapin' helping of the top names in comics and comedy put a new spin on their favorite characters! Among the distinguished creators featured in this, the very first Goon anthology, are comedians Patton Oswalt and Brian Posehn (both of Comedy Central's Comedians of Comedy and Mr. Show), Reno: 911 co-creator Thomas Lennon, B.P.R.D. scribe John Arcudi, comics great Kevin Nowlan (Tomorrow Stories, Sandman, Superman), fan-favorite Humberto Ramos (Revelations, Spider-Man), Steve Niles, Ryan Sook, Mike Ploog, Bill Morrison, Arvid Nelson, Tony Moore, Hilary Barta, Roger Langridge, Scott Allie and Todd Herman. Powell himself and frequent co-conspirators Tom Sniegoski and Mark Farmer also present the three-part "Peg Leg Full of Heaven," featuring the Little Unholy Bastards, and erstwhile publisher Dwight T. Albatross contributes a little somethin' for the ladies. See the Goon universe as never before in The Goon Noir!

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

The Goon already parodies 1930s gangster B movies—to say nothing of zombies—so noir isn't much of a stretch for creator Powell's tough guy's tough guy. In fact, it's just a matter of subtracting color. All these stories are in black and white. But is this only, as a banner declares in The Man of the Hour, in which Goon-o doesn't appreciate a roast in his honor, a 'Batman Black and White' Rip-Off? Nuts t' dat! With new creators for every story, it's a zombie-bashin' jamboree. There are no duds here, yet the most unusual narrative strategies yield the most satisfying pieces. Hilary Barta's speechless tour-de-force, Reap What You Sow, boldly demonstrates that, though The Goon owes its success to snappy patter, it doesn't strictly need the wisecracks. Roger Langridge superimposes visitors from another medium (Peter Cook and Dudley Moore) over a typical Goon knockdown blast-out and achieves perhaps the funniest, certainly the drollest, contribution. Rants by the titular Mr. Albatross precede, intermit, and follow the flow of stories with risible effrontery. Olson, Ray

More About the Author

Eric Powell is a writer and artist who has contributed work on such comics titles as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Hellboy: Weird Tales, Star Wars Tales, The Incredible Hulk, Black Panther, The Avengers, The Hood, MAD Magazine, Devil Dinosaur, Swamp Thing, the Avengers, She-Hulk, the Simpsons, Arkham Asylum: Living Hell, Action Comics, and Creepy. Although eking out a meager living in the comics field since 1995, Eric didn't find true success until he launched his critically acclaimed dark comedy series The Goon. Recently, Eric has been working in collaboration with acclaimed director David Fincher, Blur Animation, and Dark Horse Entertainment to bring the Goon to life on the big screen as an animated feature film.

5.0 out of 5 stars A nice homage and a great addition to the Goon collection, July 1, 2008

This review is from: The Goon: Noir (Goon (Numbered)) (Paperback)
While this tome is mostly filled with several short stories created by fan's of the Goon, with some notable celebrities such as Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, and Thomas Lennon, giving us some pretty diverse fare, Eric Powell also lends a hand with a three part Little Unholy B@$t@rds tale. We get the pleasure of being introduced to Dwight T. Albatross, the TRUE creator of the Goon who lets Eric Powell ride on his mighty coattails, though Dwight is none to thrilled with the lack of female fans that exist in the comic book universe and is likely going to be moving in the direction of rocker next.
Though this does not move the main storyline of the Goon along, it is a nice addition to the collection. Much like the first story on these pages, this serves as a great Roast for the Goon.

5.0 out of 5 stars NOIR GOON!, January 30, 2011

This review is from: The Goon: Noir (Goon (Numbered)) (Paperback)
This All Black and White book has a collection of short stories featuring the Goon, Franky, the guys at Norton's pub, and a lot of my favorite character (besides Goon), Spider! This has some funny stories written by comedians like patton oswalt with art from some of comics greats like tony (walking dead) Moore, Steve Niles, bill morrison, and many others. There is even new goon work by The man himself Eric Powell! Great addition to my goon collection, great read, worth your money if you are a goon fan!
