Well I'm not from NY. so maybe that's why I never heard of The Goops until that fateful day when I went into a pawn shop in North Carolina and found this CD for a dollar. What a deal! Eleanor Whitelage, the singer, has a mean set of pipes. The album starts off with Dead/Alive and the ripping chorus makes this a great tune to drive to.

This is not cut and paste punk, this is the real deal. With titles like 'Booze Cabana' and 'The Day I met Iggy', this album destroys all posers who swear by their Green Day. I forget the bass players name, but he's got some great runs and bass lines all through this disk. He is an above average player, that's for sure.

So if you're looking for straight-edged punk that doesn't pull any punches, check out 'The Goops'!

"Booze Cabana" is a terrific punk rock anthem, the other tracks are decent, I suppose, but lacking the hook. Worth buying used.

Eleanor Whitelage, the vocalist for The Goops, is tougher and rougher than musicland's sweetheart badgirl-of-the-month Gwen Stefani. Eleanor's voice is hard and driven, throatier than cutesy Gwen's and prettier than Courtney Love's. The Goops are the grandkids of Blondie. They're hard. They're punk rock. They're singable but will never be called pretty. They're fast and make you want to pogo. You'll hear 80s punk band influences in the instrumentals-- the beginning of second track of "Lucky" (released in 1996 and smashingly good) titled 'Vulgar Appetites' sounds like it was lifted straight from a Token Entry song.

If you're really lucky, see them live. The Goops are just all-out good!
